Fundraiser celebrates charity’s 10th anniversary

and kicks off Lemonade Days weekend;

Philadelphia, June 3, 2010 – CBS 3 and The CW Philly will once again present a full day of fundraising for the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation on Thursday, June 10th live from the Great Hall in the stations’ HD Broadcast Center. The fundraiser will celebrate the 10th anniversary this month of the first Alex’s Lemonade Stand of four-year-old Alexandra Scott, which, since her passing in 2004, has blossomed into a nationwide fundraising movement to find a cure for childhood cancer.

The Alex Scott Phone Bank will air in special segments from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. throughout the broadcast day. Pledges can be made by credit card or check by calling 1-877-KYW-3ASK (1-877-599-3275).



The stations are making the time available in newscasts and in commercial break time. The stations will also present special “Alex hour” by pre-empting regularly-scheduled programming from 9 to 10 a.m., 3 to 4 p.m., 5 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. on CBS 3 and from 3 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. on The CW Philly.

CBS 3’s Chris May, Susan Barnett, Pat Ciarrocchi, Ukee Washington and Stephanie Stahl will spearhead the15-hour effort. Alex’s parents, Liz and Jay Scott, along with other CBS 3 personalities, will join the hosts for the annual event as well as personalities from the CBS Radio stations locally.

Alex Scott: A Stand for Hope, a new moving half hour special that tells Alex’s story, will also air Saturday, June 12th at 7 p.m. on CBS 3. The show will be rebroadcast on Sunday, June 13th at 11 a.m. on CBS 3 and at 10:30 p.m. on The CW Philly.

The Alex Scott Phone Bank will help kick off Lemonade Days 2010 (June 11-13) when thousands of volunteers across the country will take a stand against pediatric cancer by hosting lemonade stands of their own. Meteorologist Kathy Orr will host a CBS 3/CW Philly lemonade stand to collect donations in Ocean City, New Jersey at Rita’s Water Ice on The Boardwalk June 10th as part of her “Orr at the Shore” series.

“We’re honored to mark this 10th anniversary milestone with the Scott family,” says President and General Manager Jon Hitchcock, “but the fundraiser reminds us that Alex’s work continues and requires continued funding so that childhood cancers will one day be a thing of the past.”

“We are honored to kick off our national fundraising weekend, Lemonade Days, with CBS 3, The CW Philly and the City of Philadelphia which have been so influential in Alex’s success,” says Liz Scott, Alex’s mom. “Through the support of the CBS stations and their viewing audience in and around Philadelphia, critical funds have been raised in the battle against childhood cancer, allowing us to continue what Alex started a decade ago.”
