FROM KEITH GROLLER
Word is spreading around the sports community and many have asked me what is the latest on our Morning Call colleague Andre Williams.
Andre was stricken and collapsed at his home on Tuesday night and is in the intensive care unit at St. Luke's Hospital in Fountain Hill.
Out of respect for his family, especially his son Chevon, we have to be careful what to release. And frankly, from all accounts, the medical staff is still trying to figure out what caused this. A heart attack has been ruled out.
But just know that our friend is very sick and needs everyone's prayers. This is a tough battle.
Andre is a religious person. Whether you are or not, please give prayer a shot in this case. As I like to say, what could it hurt?
Our Morning Call family has been shaken by this startling news, but we are keeping hope that our hard-working friend, who has always been a strong guy, will get through this crisis and will once again do what he loves to do and that's write about sports, people and things that matter in this community.
And while you're at it, give a thought or two to Chevon, a fine young man who I've known since he was a precocious little boy. Now, he's a freshman in high school and a terrific athlete and Honor Roll student. This is going to be a very tough period for him as well and he's going to need people rallying around him. Please send some positive thoughts his way as well.
If and when I get more information and am able to pass it along, I will, because I know Andre has touched a lot of lives in our tight-knit sports community and so many of you, like us, care a great deal about him.
