Patti Heffner Memorial tournaments will hopefully capture her spirit

It has been four months and it's still hard to believe that Patti Heffner is gone.

I go about my business every day, talk to people, write about events, write columns, put gas in the car, get my groceries, watch "Dancing with the Stars" and "American Idol" spoil my daughter and granddaughter and do the things I have always done.

And then in a rare quiet moment, every so often, I think about Patti and again remember with sadness that she's gone and this very vibrant, very involved woman, so connected to so many in our sports community, left us all too soon.

Her life and her passing are reminders to make the most of what we have now, before it's gone.

It is in that spirit that we mention two upcoming events that will be held in memory of Patti.



Event No. 1 is the first annual Patti Heffner Memorial Golf Tournament set for July 2 at the Blue Ridge Country Club in Palmerton. Proceeds from this tournament will help fund the Patti Heffner Memorial Scholarship Trust.

The scholarship trust will award annual scholarships to a female senior athlete at Catasauqa High School and a senior female at Parkland, each of whom will continue her education at an accredited college or university.

The other event is the Patti Heffner Memorial Basketball Classic set for Parkland High School June 18-20.

The girls ourney, which will benefit the Parkland Lady Trojan Basketball Booster Club, is open to high school varsity and JV teams as well as youth teams ranging from U8 to U14.
