Joe Blanton has been placed on the 15-day disabled list

Looks like former Lehigh Valley IronPig Kyle Kendrick will be in the Phillies' starting rotation after all when they come north later this week.

This is because right-hander Joe Blanton has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Blanton, who has never been on the disabled list, injured a left oblique muscle during a bullpen session on Wednesday and is expected to miss three to six weeks, according to team physician Michael Ciccotti.

Because they're so close to opening day and have worked their pitching rotation accordingly, the Phillies likely will move Kendrick into Blanton's spot rather than rearrange the entire rotation.

Blanton on Monday was shelled for 11 runs in five innings in a minor-league game, but according to Ciccotti showed no symptoms of the injury until Wednesday's bullpen session.

After going 12-8 with a 4.05 ERA last season, Blanton signed a three-year, $24 million contract extension over the winter.
