Bethlehem Catholic High School sophomore Randy Cruz captured the 112-pound title during this past weekend's NHSCA National Wrestling Championships

Bethlehem Catholic High School sophomore Randy Cruz captured the 112-pound title during this past weekend's NHSCA National Wrestling Championships held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

Cruz, a runner-up at this year's PIAA Class AA Wrestling Championships, finished first among a national field of 45 sophomores. He defeated Eric Montoya of New Mexico 2-0 in overtime to earn the gold medal.

Pen Argyl's Mikey Racciato placed second in the freshman 135-pound classification. Racciato won twice by fall, once by decision and another by major decision before falling 10-5 to Abraham Rodriguez of Oregon in the final.

Easton's Mitch Minotti took fourth at the national tournament for a second straight year. He lost to Gabriel Moreno of Iowa 5-0 in the third-place final for sophomores at 140 pounds.

The tournament included wrestlers from 47 states.
