Deregulation and competition in the electricity utility market have resulted in a 30% rate hike in 2010 for PPL customers in the Lehigh Valley according to an article in the Morning Call.
To date, one company has opted to ‘compete’ with PPL and they will be offering a 10% discount on the 30% rate hike for the first 5000 customers.
''To help our customers prepare, we've shared information for more than three years about how electricity prices will change when rate caps expire,'' said David G. DeCampli, president of PPL Electric Utilities. ''Now we have a clear picture of what customers can expect.'
