Parkland ice hockey team advances to the Flyers Cup quarterfinals

For the second straight year, the Parkland High ice hockey team (21-1-1) has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Flyers Cup. The Trojans, seeded sixth, advanced with a 7-4 win over Spring-Ford on Wednesday night and will play No. 3 seed North Penn at the Hatfield Ice Arena at 7:20 on Friday night.
Last year, Parkland made it to the Flyers Cup finals and also represented the Flyers half of the state in the state championship game.
 In the win over Spring-Ford, Parkland got three goals from Ryan Dumbach and solo goals from Brett McHale, Ben Zager, Michael Monkiewicz and Evan Dratch. Daniel Hertia had two assists and Morgan Bensinger one.
Parkland out shot Spring-Ford 39-11 and Jordan Lorah made seven saves.
Earlier in the week, Parkland won its fifth straight Lehigh Valley Scholastic Hockey League title with a 3-0 win over Phillipsburg. The Trojans have gone unbeaten in 44 straight LVSHL games.
