Kegger Awards mistake: How could I forget Mr. Stat himself, Allen's Brian Deppe?

FROM KEITH GROLLER

Busy week with softball previews and finishing up a lengthy piece on the legendary Larry Miller that will run in Sunday's paper. I hope that story brings back some nice memories for area basketball fans.
Included in my week was the annual Keggers Award. This was the 20th year I did a list of some of the special people and things that make the high school boys basketball special to me. Of all of the columns I do during the course of a year, it amazes me how much feedback I get on this one.
You get nothing for winning a Kegger by the way, except a little ink, and yet everyone wants one.
So, I did the column on Thursday night, had a late-night snack, watched Texas beat Arizona State at the buzzer of an NCAA game, watched Billy Joel on Jimmy Fallon and went to bed.
And almost as soon as my head hit the pillow, a gnawing feeling hit me --- I FORGOT BRIAN DEPPE!Brian Deppe
How, could I forget the longtime Kegger Award winner who bleeds Canary and Blue for Doug Snyder's program?
I couldn't sleep the rest of the night.
So, now, more than a day later, let me add one more Kegger Award winner for the 2013-14 season:
Best Stat Man -- Allen's Brian Deppe.
He amazes me with his passion and dedication to his alma mater. In the same year that Allen lost longtime fan Roy Daubenspeck, it's nice to see some familiar faces at Allen games and no one is more familiar than Brian Deppe who works hard just because he loves his school and his basketball team.
Congrats to Brian and hopefully he will not give me too much of a hard time for this obvious oversight.
And thanks also to Tracy Rabenold for the photo. She probably deserves her own Kegger Award for being so supportive in coordinating the Canaries' alumni game.
I reached out to Tracy on Facebook for a photo of Brian and within 15 minutes, I had one.
