Amanda Rosa wanted to make a statement with her relay split. The Easton Area High School junior may have done just that at the District 11 Class AAA Swimming Championships tonight at Parkland High School.
Rosa swam 29.84 seconds in the breaststroke to bring her 200 medley relay squad from third to first. From there, Nathalie Paczes and Tara Stahlecker held off a charging Freedom team to win the 200 medley relay title in 1:48.73
"I wanted to show that I'm here and the breaststroke is my main thing and I'm going for the gold," said Rosa, who is the third seed in Saturday's individual 100 breaststroke.
Rosa swam more than three seconds faster than Freedom's Kelly Kopko to give the Red Rovers a commanding lead. Kopko jumped in the water with a half-second lead after the first leg. If Rosa hadn't posted the time she did, Freedom would have likely won a second straight title. The Patriots clocked in at 1:49.06.
