The first 12 minutes, at least, appeared promising for Phillipsburg High School's boys basketball team tonight.
The Stateliners led Montgomery by three points in their season opener and there were signs that Phillipsburg was going to be a much-improved team from last year's four-win outfit.
But the Cougars kicked it in gear over the final four minutes of the first half and behind its frontcourt tandem of Justin Kovacevitch and Greg Tarca, put away Phillipsburg 71-50 in a Skyland Conference Raritan Division game in Phillipsburg's gym.
