HERSHEY, Pa. – Devon Deibler finally fits in. Finally.
The McDevitt senior offensive lineman was a transfer into the program before the start of the 2013 season, but he’d never tasted what it felt like to win a District 3 football championship in his scholastic football career. Devon’s father, Rob, won a district title as quarterback at Steelton-Highspire and then turned the Rollers into a Class A powerhouse as its head coach, capping a dominant Rollers’ run with a pair of PIAA titles in 2007 and 2008.
There’s a Fort Knox-esque sized plot of gold in the Deibler household. Now, Devon can stake a claim to owning some of it.
“I’m officially a Deibler now,” No. 76 joked postgame. “I have that district title. I can go to all of the (family) reunions now.”
In the process, Deibler and Bishop McDevitt bounced Manheim Central like it was an ugly stepsister.
Bishop McDevitt (13-1) gouged Manheim Central (13-1) for 561 yards, including 364 on the ground, and moved to 12-0 in District 3 AAA playoff games since 2010 with a 48-7 triumph Friday night at Hersheypark Stadium. The victory gave McDevitt its 11th D3 title overall, fourth in a row, and sixth in Class AAA. Manheim Central, meanwhile, fell to 16-3 in district title games, sustaining its first defeat since a 15-7 setback to West York in the 2008 title game.
Bishop McDevitt will advance to the PIAA semifinals, where it will face District 10 champion Cathedral Prep (13-0). The Ramblers have won 28 consecutive games and are the defending PIAA AAA champion.
