Dieruff beating Allen at the end of last season was a feel-good win for a struggling progam. It snapped a 29-game losing streak.
But what happened on Saturday afternoon at J. Birney Crum Stadium was a true sign of progress for the Huskies.
After close calls against Pocono Mountain East and Pleasant Valley, Dieruff broke through with a big second half, scoring 28 points at one point, to defeat Wallenpaupack 34-21.
The win was the Huskies' first over someone other than Allen since a 49-7 win over Pocono Mountain East on Aug. 29, 2008 -- the season opener of that season. Since that one, Dieruff had dropped 45 straight games against opponents other than Allen -- eight in 2008, nine in 2009, nine in 2010, nine in 2011 and eight in 2012 and two this year.
Chris Marks, who entered the game as the leading passer in the Mountain Valley Conference, had another big day. He was 15-for-22 for 259 yards and three touchdowns.
All of his TD passes came in the third quarter. Marks connected twice for scores with Kasey Myers and hit Shakur Lester on a 56-yarder.
Lester ran for 183 yards on 13 carries and scored three touchdowns in another spectacular performance. Lester now leads the MVC in scoring with nine touchdowns.
Myers finished with six receptions for 108 yards and two scores.
Dieruff has now scored 95 points this season, the most they have scored in any season since tallying 168 points in 2008, and remember there are seven games yet to play starting with next Saturday's visit to Pius X.
