Just when you thought the popularity of the NFL could not get bigger comes ratings for the first week of the NFL on CBS, Fox and NBC.
Last night’s Sunday Night Football game on NBC featuring the Giants and Cowboys registered an overnight 16.6 rating. It’s the fourth year in a row that the season opener rated 16-plus. It was also third-best for NBCSunday Night Football opener since 2006.
Fox’ s late-afternoon national game, mainly boosted by the Green Bay Packers at San Francisco 49ers, got an overnight 17.8 rating, making it Fox’s best Week 1 national game overnight ever.
CBS’ regional coverage at 1 p.m., earned an overnight rating of 11.2, up 8 percent from last year. That number is the highest-rated single-header game debut for CBS in 14 years.
