FROM LEHIGH
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bad weather ended hopes of a comeback by the Lehigh baseball team in a 10-8 loss against Delaware State on Wednesday on the Goodman Campus. The game, which featured four lead changes, was called due to a thunderstorm with two outs in the top of the seventh inning. The Mountain Hawks drop to 17-16 with the non-league loss and the Hornets improve to 21-10.
“We felt like if this game had gone the distance we would have had a good shot to compete and win,” Lehigh head coach Sean Leary said. “But both teams had a chance to score as many runs as they could in six innings and they happened to win.”
Lehigh fell into an early 2-0 hole after RBI hits from Ryan Haas and Aaron Nardone, but a triple by sophomore Justin Pacchioli kick started the Lehigh offense. Senior Casey Turner grounded out to second to bring Pacchioli home for the Brown and White’s first run. After junior Joe Abeln drew a two-out walk, sophomore John Elson smacked a two-run homer to right off Zach Adkins that put the Mountain Hawks ahead 3-2.
Freshman starter Kevin Boswick got around a leadoff double in the second to escape with a scoreless inning, but the Hornets struck back with two runs in the third when Mike Alexander hit an RBI double and scored on an error.
