Congrats to Fran Troyan on 600th win; and updated high school softball standings

Lehigh softball coach Fran Troyan collected his 600th career win on Saturday as his team swept a doubleheader from visiting Army, winning 6-5 and 2-0. The Mountain Hawks are now 22-13-1 and 8-2 in the Patriot League.

“It’s really a function of being at a great institution, an institution that’s easy to recruit to for bright kids,” said Troyan about reaching the milestone in a Lehigh release “Sue [Troyan] got it rolling in the early 90’s with a number of local players who turned out to be fantastic players. We’ve been able to attract a lot of good players. In those 600 wins I haven’t taken one swing or thrown one pitch. It’s all the players.”

This area has a trio of collegiate softball coaches who have racked up an extraordinary numbers of wins. We're covered at all levels with Moravian's John Byrne owning 642 wins in his 20th season and becoming one of the most successful coaches at the NCAA Division III level.

And then we have Kutztown University's Judy Lawes, who is now in her 26th season and 796 wins and has the Golden Bears considered one of the elite NCAA Division II programs.

If you're counting, that's 2,038 wins from three college coaches who work no more than about 35 minutes apart.
