Wednesday night boys scoreboard recap: Bangor won without even playing

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/ FROM KEITH GROLLER With a night off on Wednesday, Bron Holland took his Bangor team to the place where he played college basketball, La Salle, and in Philadelphia the Slaters experienced a night they'll never forget. The Explorers beat No. 9 ranked Butler 54-53 at the Gola Arena and the scene was wild after the game. Holland said that his guys even joined La Salle students in the storming of the court. I am sure that the visit to La Salle will come up tonight when Holland and some of his Slaters visit Chris Michael's "Sports Talk" show on RCN-4. It's a live show at 6 p.m. and people can call in at 610-443-2766. The Slaters, looking to lock down a spot in the Colonial League tournament, get back to action on Friday night when they travel to Northern Lehigh. Then they host Emmaus in a nonleague game on Saturday. Speaking of Northern Lehigh, they bounced back fast from that disappointing loss at Salisbury on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs routed Jim Thorpe for the second time this season and clinched a District 11 tournament spot. Here's a look at the Wednesday night scoreboard: Notre Dame-GP 45, Northwestern 40 -- The Crusaders rallied with a big fourth quarter after trailing 34-30 after three. Tannor Reed scored 13 points for Notre Dame, which improved to 10-7 overall, 9-2 in the league. The Tigers fell to 5-12, 2-9. Catasauqua 53, Moravian Academy 37 -- The Roughies had an amazing 36-point fourth quarter against Saucon Valley on Tuesday night and continued their momentum with an impressive win over the Lions. Four guys reached double figures, led by Tony Brinkley's 23 points. Catty is now 10-6 overall and one win away from clinching a district berth. Moravian fell to 7-8 and has some work to do to make districts. Northern Lehigh 56, Jim Thorpe 37 -- In a rematch of the Slatington Rotary holiday tournament championship game, the Bulldogs took out their frustrations from a brutal Tuesday night at Salisbury. Northern Lehigh beat Thorpe 56-20 in the previous meeting on Dec. 28 and this one was only slightly more competitive. Josh Eden, held to six by Salisbury, bounced back with 27. Big one for the Bulldogs (11-5) on Friday against Bangor.
