Whitehall athletes commit to Division I schools

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/ FROM KEITH GROLLER Whitehall High softball star Madison Kelly and baseball standout Jacob Wloczewski are both headed to Division I college programs. Kelly, a two-time Morning Call all-area player, signed her national letter of intent to continue her career at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn., while Wloczewski made it official that he is bound for Binghamton, N.Y. "I'm so excited because it's a great fit athletically and academically," Wloczewski said. "The coaches made me feel so welcome. They have a new field up here. This will be their first year on it and it's beautiful." Wloczewski, a righthanded pitcher and shortstop, also visited Pitt, Boston College, East Carolina, Radford, Longwood and the University of Virginia. Kelly was an all-area selection each of the past two years. She hit .412 last season with 28 hits, seven doubles, five triples, 13 RBIs and 15 stolen bases, while also shining defensively at shortstop. She also considered Villanova and Saint Joseph's. "Quinnipiac is Division I which has always been my dream and they have an excellent accounting program, which is what I was looking for," Kelly said. "The school is the right size for me, and I just liked the facilities and everything about it." Both Wloczewski and Kelly credited their traveling/tournament programs for helping them earn college attention. Kelly played for the Jersey Inferno Gold based in Bridgewater, NJ, and Wloczewski was a member of Triple Threat Bearcats, a nationally-ranked program based in Boyertown.
