FROM KEITH GROLLER
Catasauqua scored more points against Northampton on Thursday than the Rough Riders had tallied in 89 previous meetings in this traditional rivalry and rolled to a 52-21 victory over the Konkrete Kids at Alumni Field before a crowd of about 7,000.
Catty finished 12-1, tying a school record for wins in a season.
Junioir quarterback Zack Bradley was 7-for-10 passing for 197 yards and three touchdowns. The 197 yards gave him -- unofficially -- 2,132 yards on the season. That's a new school record, breaking the old mark of 2,021 set by Jordy Miller in 2002.
The game also featured the most points in this series since Northampton's 1937 "Wonder Team" routed Catty 85-0.
Catty now has won two in a row in the series after losing eight straight.
Northampton still leads the all-time series 54-32-4.
The Konkrete Kids, who finished 2-9, actually had a 6-3 lead in the first quarter.
But Catty scored 20 straight points and led 23-13 at halftime.
The Roughies then put the game away with 29 unanswered points in the second half before Northampton got a late touchdown to make the final score just a little more respectable.
The margin of victory was Catty's largest since a 35-0 rout in 1995.
Paryss Marshall not only caught a TD pass from Bradley, but also had an 80-yard interception return. Zach Stopay also had a 30-yard interception return for the Roughies.
Eric Matz, who played the game despite by a badly injured elbow, was Catty's MVP. He had a 34-yard run for a score, a 44-yard kickoff return and was a force defensively.
Junior quarterback Nick Cook was Northampton's MVP.
