As Lehigh head coach Andy Coen expected, the unbeaten and No. 6/8 ranked Mountain Hawks are in a real competitive game with Holy Cross at Fitton Field in Worcester, Mass.
The visitors ot a quick touchdown, then fell behind 14-6 before rallying for the last 10 points of the first half to forge a 16-14 halftime lead.
The good news for Lehigh is that All-American wide receiver Ryan Spadola is back after missing two games with mono and has four catches for 49 yards.
Quarterback Mike Colvin is 12 for 16 passing for 98 yards and has carried six times for 53 yards and two scores.
Marcus Dormevil set up Lehigh's first touchdown with a 74-yard punt return to the Holy Cross 2. Colvin scored on the next play. However, the PAT kick was missed, something that could loom large later.
Steve Elder is 12 for 17 passing for 133 yards and two touchdowns for the Crusaders, who are playing much better than their 1-7 record would indicate.
Defensively, Billy Boyko of Northampton has a team-high eight tackles in the first half, while freshmen Noah Robb (Central Catholic) and Matt Laub (Parkland) have one stop apiece.
Here's the first-half scoring summary:
