Allen-Dieruff game pushed back a full week to Nov. 10

Birney Crum Stadium, has been moved back a full week to Saturday, Nov. 10 -- still at JBC and slated for a 2 p.m. start. Allentown's schools have been out all week due to Hurricane Sandy and the damage the storm has created. Parts of the city are still without power. In fact, as of Thursday, seven schools in the city were still without power. "The school district decided that this is a special game for these kids and to go through with it without all of the normal activities ... the pep rallies, the bonfires, the in-school stuff ... associated with this game wouldn't be fair," said Allen athletic director Scott Cooperman. "It has also been difficult for both teams to prepare for the game. We have a lot of transportation issues with our kids and just getting them to school can be difficult. "So, in the best interests of all involved, we decided not to rush it. The administration said 'let's take next week and have everybody back in school and do all of the things we normally do leading up to this game.' It wouldn't be fair to all of the kids, especially the seniors, to not take the time to wait and do it right." Allen and Dieruff used to play on Thanksgiving from 1969 to 1971 and again from 1985 to 1990 -- so having to wait to play this final game is not new. The Canaries are 2-8, the Huskies are 0-8. This will be the 56th meeting in the series that began in 1959.
