FROM THE MORNING CALL
Shawn Yocum of Bethlehem Township smiled Sunday afternoon while his 11-year-old son, Bryan, took to the ballfield to play a game for the Phillies.
This wasn't a typical youth baseball game. And it isn't a typical field.
Bryan was born with a chromosome disorder and is unable to walk, talk, crawl or communicate. But he and more than 100 other disabled children can play baseball thanks to the generosity of donors who built the new Easton Rotary Field in Palmer Township, which will be used by The Miracle League of Northampton County.
Dedicated before a crowd of hundreds of people on Sunday, the field is specially designed for disabled children. The field is made from an undercoat of asphalt and topped with a layer of rubber compound to provide a cushion for players and allow the free movement of wheelchairs.
