Off the heels of yesterday’s announcement of a deal to provide programming for the Oklahoma Sooners comes word today that Fox Sports has negotiated deals with TCU and Texas Tech to produce university specific sports programming.
The agreement with TCU calls for Fox Sports to produce a a comprehensive schedule of TCU athletics, including one football game, all available men’s basketball games and mutually agreed upon Olympic sports, including women’s basketball, baseball, soccer and volleyball contests. These games will be aired on Fox Sports Southwest and other Fox Sports regional and national networks. Fox Sports Southwest reaches approximately 9 million homes throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas.
“This is an exciting time for TCU as it celebrates its first season in the Big 12 and we’re thrilled to partner with the school to give fans more access to Horned Frogs athletics,” FOX Sports Southwest senior vice president/general manager Jon Heidtke said. “We look forward to helping TCU broaden its exposure by showcasing a great lineup of sporting events across the region.”
“We are very proud of our new relationship with FOX Sports,” TCU director of intercollegiate athletics Chris Del Conte said. “FOX Sports is such a recognizable brand and a perfect fit for us. Having our games on FOX Sports Southwest and other FOX Sports properties enables us to bring the Horned Frogs to fans in our geographic footprint and beyond.”
The Texas Tech agreement is a distribution pact with Learfeild Sports, which is Texas Tech’s exclusive athletic multimedia rights holder.
The plan calls for the televising of one football game annually on a Fox Sports Networks’ platform, which could include Fox Sports Southwest, Fox Sports Southwest Plus or Fox College Sports. Fox Sports will also televise all available men’s basketball games, up to 20 Olympic sports, and additional Texas Tech non-game programming mutually selected by Fox Sports and Texas Tech. This season, Texas Tech’s Red Raider Weekly and Raider Power are scheduled to air on Fox Sports Southwest and Fox College Sports respectively.
“With a focus towards enhancing and expanding the Texas Tech brand, we are excited about this partnership with FOX Sports,” said Texas Tech Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt. “The expanded exposure and distribution will allow Red Raider fans unprecedented access to Texas Tech sporting events and programming. We will continue to be proactive in exploring new media opportunities as this particular segment of our industry continues to evolve.”
“We’re excited about our new partnership with Texas Tech,” said FOX Sports Southwest Senior Vice President/General Manager Jon Heidtke. “It presents a great opportunity for us to extend our relationship with the Big 12 even deeper into the fabric of our region. We look forward to showcasing a robust lineup of Red Raiders sports across the Southwest and helping Texas Tech broaden its exposure.”
