Pen Argyl leaves no doubt that it's the Colonial League North softball champ

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/ FROM KEITH GROLLER I was going to go to Palmerton today for the Colonial League game between Pen Argyl and Palmerton, but the rain in my part of the Valley and having to track the Northampton School Board meeting for news about its new boys basketball coach and athletic director kept me away. As it turned out, I didn't miss a game as much as I missed a showcase for the Green Knights, who clinched the Colonial's North division title with authority. Pen Argyl routed the host Blue Bombers 17-1 in a game mercifully halted after four innings. According to what was called in, the Green Knights (16-2, 13-1) had just five hits but took advantage of eight Palmerton errors. These same two teams could meet again next week in the Colonial League tournament and you wonder what kind of psychological effect this thumping could have on either side in a potential playoff meeting. Elsewhere, Northwestern clinched its league playoff spot by beating Bangor, but South Division champ Saucon Valley lost 6-4 to rival Southern Lehigh as the Spartans continued their late surge toward a District 11 playoff berth. Southern Lehigh can clinch what was one thought to be an out-of-reach district slot by beating Palisades on Tuesday. Palisades has won just two games all season. At 8-8, Wilson is also alive for a district playoff spot. The Warriors, who were rained out on Monday night, need to win two of their last four games to qualify for districts for the second time in three years after a long district drought. Wilson plays Saucon Valley on Tuesday, Notre Dame on Wednesday under the lights, Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg on Thursday and Salisbury on Saturday morning at Pates Park.
