More than a day later, Stambaugh still hasn't heard from his quarterback

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/ FROM KEITH GROLLER More than a day later, Pius X football coach Phil Stambaugh still hasn't heard from his standout quarterback A.J. Long or his mother about why she disenrolled him from the school on Monday morning. His mother, Angela, who lives in Tennessee, signed papers in the Roseto school on Monday to take Long out of the school just weeks before the completion of his sophomore year. Despite repeated attempts to talk to his now former player or his mother, Stambaugh said early Tuesday night that he still hasn't reached him. Some have conjectured on various websites that Long was simply missing his mother, who left the area last year, and she has taken him with her to Tennessee and will enroll him in a new school there. Stambaugh said that scenario is quite possible. "That may have been what happened," he said. "I am sure he does miss her. He was supposed to go down there with her last year and he didn't want to go at that point and stayed here. Now, something else has developed. But this literally came of nowhere. I had just seen him on Friday and this was not something was discussed. "I tried to call him again and I want to talk to him. I want to make sure he's OK. Obviously, I don't want him to leave. He worked very hard while he was here and hopefully he'll remember some of the things we taught him." Stambaugh said that the rest of the team has been jolted by Long's depature, but will recover. "We're not ready to throw in the towel yet," Stambaugh said.
