MEMORIAL DAY EVENTS

Local veterans will award gift cards to three students from Fountain Hill Elementary School who were winners of the best patriotic essay contest. The students will read these essays. Music by Broughal Middle School Band. SUNDAY, MAY 27 St. Peter's Union Church, 7863 St. Peter's Road, Macungie, will hold a pancake and sausage breakfast honoring veterans from 6 to 11 a.m. A Patriotic worship service will be held at 9 a.m. followed by a graveside service. American Legion Post 16, Slatington, will visit the following cemeteries: Williamstown, 8:10 a.m.; Jacksonville, 8:40 a.m.; New Tripoli UCC, 9:15 a.m.; Heidelberg UCC, 9:45 a.m.; Neff's Lutheran, 10:15 a.m.; Seventh Street Catholic Church, 10:45 a.m.; Fairview, 11 a.m.; Friedens, 11:15 a.m.; and Presbyterian Church, 11:45 a.m. Emmaus Veterans Committee will visit the following cemeteries: Calvary, 8 a.m.; followed by Old Moravian, Moravian at Ridge Street, Lutheran Reformed, Northwood, and Evangelical, Second and Ridge streets. "M" Company, Sons of Union Veterans Reserve of the Civil War will participate in services at the following locations: Fairview Cemetery, Cherryville Road, Northampton, 8:15 a.m.; St. Peter's (Snyder's) United Church of Christ, Seemsville, 9 a.m.; Congregation of Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Emmanuelsville, 10:40 a.m.; Christ United Church of Christ, Little Moore, 11 a.m.; Zion Stone United Church of Christ, Kreidersville, 2 p.m., speaker is Al Pierce; Homer's Cemetery, Northampton-Bath Highway, 3:30 p.m. Macungie Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 9264 and Veterans of the Vietnam War Post 75 will visit the following cemeteries: St. Peter's Union Church, 10 a.m.; Macungie Fairview Cemetery, 11 a.m.; Solomon's Church Cemetery, 11:55 a.m.; Zion's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Old Zionsville, 12:45 p.m.; Bethany United Methodist Cemetery, East Texas, 1:55 p.m. The Emmaus Garden Foundation will hold an informal ceremony to install 27 bricks to the Veteran's Walk at 1 p.m. at the Remembrance Garden at the Knauss Homestead, 164 E. MONDAY, MAY 28 American Legion Post 16, Slatington, will visit the following cemeteries: Catholic, Washington Street, 8:05 a.m.; Slatedale, 8:30 a.m.; Trout Creek New Covered Bridge, 8:50 a.m.; back to post home to form a parade in Slatington, 9:30 a.m. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Main and Second streets and proceed to Fairview Cemetery for 10:30 a.m. services. Speaker is Robert Shalala, Pennsylvania American Legion Past Department Commander. Rain location, First Baptist Church, 509 Main St. Sons of the Union Veterans Reserve of the Civil War will take part in services at the following locations: Allen Union Cemetery, Fourth and Main streets, Northampton, 8 a.m., speaker will be Rev. Heather Kurtz; Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Plot, Lincoln and Dewey avenues, Northampton, 8:15 a.m.; St. John's United Church of Christ, Howertown, 9:45 a.m., speaker is Brian Radcliffe; Siegfried Memorial Plot, W. 21st Street, Northampton, 11 a.m. Macungie Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 9264 and Veterans of the Vietnam War Post 75 will hold services at 8:30 a.m. at the Macungie Memorial Park Veteran's Memorial. Parade begins at 10 a.m. at Shoemaker Elementary School and marches along E. Main Street to Macungie Memorial Park Bandshell. Guest speaker is Cap. Samuel A. Johnson, USMC, director and co-founder of Keystone Wounded Warriors. Service follows at noon at the Lehigh-Northampton Vietnam Veteran Memorial, 287 Lehigh St. In the event of rain, the parade will be canceled and services will be held at 10:30 a.m. in Macungie Memorial Park auditorium, 50 Poplar St. Emmaus Memorial Day parade, 9 a.m., will depart from the high school parking lot and proceed to the Triangle where services will be held. Rain location, Emmaus High School auditorium at 9:30 a.m. West Easton Memorial Day services will be held at 9 a.m. at the West Easton Borough Memorial, 237 Seventh St. American Legion Post 750 will hold services at 9:30 a.m. at Presbyterian Cemetery, Liberty Street, Roseto. A community program begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Veterans Monuments at Municipal Plaza. Rain location is the post home, 141-143 Garibaldi Ave., Roseto. United Veterans of Wars Allentown will hold a service at 10 a.m. at the Soldiers & Sailors Monument, Seventh and Hamilton streets, Allentown. Rain location, Lehigh County Government Center. The Nazareth Memorial Day parade and service will begin at 10 a.m. in Centre Square. After honors are presented, the parade will proceed south on Main Street, east on Prospect Street, north on Broad Street, west on Belvidere Street to Mauch Chunk Street, north on Church Street to Borough Council meeting chambers for the services. The parade will stop at American Legion Post 415, Main Street, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4366, Mauch Chunk Street, to present honors. Rain location, Nazareth Area High School gym at 11 a.m. Doors will open at 9 a.m. Bangor Memorial Day parade, 10:30 a.m., will depart from St. John's Cemetery, Sixth and Broadway streets. State Rep. Joe Emrick will be the guest speaker. The parade proceeds to Founder's Park, Broadway, where John Reinhart, Bangor Area High School principal, will speak. West Bangor Memorial Association will hold services at 11 a.m. at the Memorial Site, Second Street. Hon. Edward G. Smith, Judge of the Northampton County Court of Common Pleas, will be the speaker. Music by the Hope Gospel Quartet. Rain location, St. Joseph's Episcopal Church, social hall, Verona Avenue. East Bangor will hold Memorial Day services at 1 p.m. at East Bangor Cemetery. Bangor High School senior Ian Haddad, who is planning to enroll in ROTC, and David Naylor will be the speakers. Rain location is East Bangor United Methodist Community Church, 136 W. Central Ave.
