Colonial League softball playoff matchups are set; LVC getting close

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/ FROM KEITH GROLLER Finally there's a hint of the sun coming out here on Groller's Corner and there's hope we can get through a rain-free Thursday that will go a long way in determining some things in area softball. A lot was determined on Wednesday. In the Colonial League, the matchups were set for next week's tournament. Pen Argyl is the top seed and will play No. 4 seed Northwestern on Tuesday night at 7 at Pates Park. It's not certain who's the No. 2 and No. 3 seed between Saucon Valley and Palmerton, but it doesn't matter. Those teams will play at 5 p.m. Those winners will play for the championship at 5 p.m. Thursday. In the LVC, Liberty has won the East Division, Parkland has won the North Division and Emmaus has taken the West. Whitehall can win the wild-card spot with a win over visiting Parkland today. If the Zephyrs lose, then Becahi can seize the final spot by beating Easton. The semifinal matchups are a bit murky because Parkland, with two losses, still has a chance of getting the No. 1 seed because the Trojans are just one game behind Liberty (one loss) and own the tiebreaker by virtue of their win over the Hurricanes a few weeks ago -- the only loss Liberty has had all season. What we do know is that the LVC semis will be held on Monday night at 5 and 7. The title game is set for Thursday at 7.
