Northampton routed Freedom 10-0 in five innings and Nazareth surprised Bethlehem Catholic 9-6 in the two early games here at Pates Park during the Lehigh Valley Conference "Play Day."

Konkrete Kids improved to 7-3 and dropped Freedom to 3-7 with their dominant performance.

Marly Laubach pitched a two-hitter, while Alesha Marcks hit a two-run home run and Kim Dalton sparked the offense with a double and triple. Tori Gollie also doubled and tripled and had three hits overall.

In Nazareth's win, the Blue Eagles spanked 14 hits.

Amanda Setzer had had three hits, including a two-run home run in the top of the first inning that got Nazareth off to a good start.

It was 2-1 until the top of the fifth when Lizzie Deutsch and Ariane Hilborn had RBI singles to pad the lead for Nazareth.

Becahi closed to within 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth when Taylor Brady tripled.

But Nazareth (6-3) put the game away with five runs in the top of the seventh when it collected six hits, including a two-run single by Dominique Chamberlain, a two-run double by Jen Loftus and a RBI double by Molly Calabrese.

Kate Yanders had two hits for Becahi, the preseason favorite in the LVC, which fell to 7-2.

The games did not count in the LVC standings. The same matchups will be repeated on Thursday when the games will count in the standings.

The next three games here at Pates -- Whitehall/Dieruff, Liberty/CCHS and Easton/Allen -- are, frankly, expected to one-sided. Whitehall scored four in the bottom of the first against Dieruff.

The card concludes with Emmaus/Parkland at approximately 7 p.m.
