Coy Stampone recommended to become next Northampton boys basketball coach

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/ FROM KEITH GROLLER Several reliable sources have told me that Coy Stampone will be presented to the Northampton Area School District Board for approval as the high school's next varsity boys basketball coach. The next board meeting is slated for May 7. Stampone, 52, is a business education teacher at Northampton High School. In his first year as a head coach in 2011-12, Stampone guided Pen Argyl to a 6-16 record, 5-11 in the Colonial League. Stampone played for Bill Pensyl at Bangor and was a member of the Slaters 1977 Colonial League championship team. He also played at Kutztown University. He had been an assistant at Nazareth from 2006-2011, where his son, Anthony played football and basketball. Anthony is completing his sophomore year at Marist where he plays football. Another son, Mike, played football at King's. Mark Lesko, a 2002 Muhlenberg College graduate who had coached at Central Catholic two years ago and had been on Ed Ohlson's staff at Northampton last year, was Ohlson's recommended choice for the position. He was reportedly a finalist along with former Whitehall High standout Jerry Lloyd. Ohlson resigned shortly after the end of the 2011-12 season. He was 89-106 over eight seasons, 8-14 last year.
