Bonenberger, Livermore honored as rookies of the year in respective leagues

Northampton grad and University of Pennsylvania freshman Kara Bonenberger (left) and Nazareth product and Fairleigh Dickinson freshman Erika Livermore (below, right) have been honored as rookies of the year in their respective leagues.

Bonenberger is the Ivy League rookie of the year after becoming the just the third Big 5 Rookie of the Year in the history of the University of Pennsylvania women's basketball program.

She finished second in the Ivy League in field goal percentage and led the Quakers in rebounding and blocks. She started 12 games in her rookie campaign and finished second on the team in scoring. Both of Bonenberger's double-doubles came against City Six opponents and her six blocks in the win over Dartmouth on Feb. 24 was one off the single-game school record. For her efforts, Bonenberger was a four-time Ivy Rookie of the Week and earned Big 5 Player of the Week honors on Dec. 26.

Livermore (below right) was named the College Sports Madness Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year as after averaging 12.1 points and 7.6 rebounds per game in conference play during her freshman campaign. SheErika led the team with a 47.1 shooting percentage and made 73.7 pecent at the foul line. As a four-time NEC Rookie of the Week, Livermore trailed only Sacred Heart's abrielle Washington among freshman scoring leaders and led all rookies in rebounding.
