Terry L. Bartolet, prominent Easton doctor and athlete, dies at 71

Dr. Terry Lee Bartolet, 71, of Easton, died today in Easton Hospital after being stricken at home.

A 1959 graduate of Easton High School, Bartolet was a multisport standout who quarterbacked the Red Rovers unbeaten 1958 squad, led the baseball teams to two District 11 titles, and scored a school-record 48 points in a basketball game.

He was No. 50 in The Express-Times List of the Top 100 Sports People of the Century in 2000.

Bartolet attended Harvard University, where he was starting quarterback for the Crimson football team and started at second base and captained the baseball team. He received his bachelor of science degree from Harvard in 1964 and graduated from Temple Medical School in 1969.

Bartolet interned at York Hospital and served his orthopedic residency at Temple from 1970 to 1974 before opening a private orthopedic practice with Dr. Douglas Ditmars in the Easton area from 1976 until 2001. He also served as the Easton Area High School team physician.

A son of the late Eleanor Holtzman Bartolet and Charles E. Bartolet Sr., Terry Bartolet and his wife, the former Virginia Napoli, were married for 47 years.

Besides his wife, Bartolet is survived by children, Dr. Lora B. Levin and her husband, Dr. Jared Levin; Daniel L. Bartolet and his wife, Tamara of Easton; Terry A. Bartolet of Harmony Township; brother, Charles E. Jr. and his wife, Rita of Hellertown; and four grandchildren, Daniel, Peter, Arden and Isabel.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton. Timing for the Wednesday service will be announced. Interment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Palmer Township.
