Lots of locals going for a basketball championship with Northampton CC today

FROM KEITH GROLLER

I know we're all wrapped up in a lot of different things today ... regional wrestling, district basketball, Patriot League hoops.

But just a quick salute for the Northampton Community College women's team, which happens to feature a lot of Lehigh Valley area products, and a team that is also competing for a major championship.NCCwomen

The particulars from a NCC release:

The Northampton women'sl team will square off with Ocean County College today at 2:30pm at Brookdale Community College for the 2012 Region XIX Division III championship.

Northampton (23-4) is the only Region XIX team to defeat Ocean this season, handing them a 13-point loss in Bethlehem. The Vikings returned the favor in Toms River, defeating NCC by 6 on February 4th.

Ocean (24-2) has won 16 straight and is led by Region XIX Player of the Year Liz Lawler,

"She is an outstanding player," said NCC head coach Art Wolfe, "I was very impressed with her ability to play both inside and on the perimeter."

NCC sports three All-Region selections; Halie Cintron (1st Team), Tiara Aziz (2nd Team) and Dee Brown (3rd Team). Brown had 31 in the Spartans opening round playoff victory over Gloucester.

Cintron is from Allen, Aziz is from Easton and Brown is an Emmaus product.

The team has several other locals: Kiersten Young (Pen Argyl); Alyssa Gibson (Wilson);Jahnna Salazar (Liberty) and Shana Clark (Pocono Mountain West).

The winner of today's game will advance to the NJCAA national tournament in Rochester, Minnesota.
