FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

A 47-year-old Nazareth man committed suicide this morning by jumping off the Route 33 South bridge into the Lehigh River, Pennsylvania State Police at the Belfast barracks said.

The man's name and address were not released by police. Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek said he was waiting to notify next of kin before releasing the man's identity.

State police said they were called at 10:31 a.m. for a report of a man sitting on the concrete barrier of the bridge with his feet dangling over the side, and then received a report the man jumped. The bridge is about 150 feet high.

The man was found floating facedown in the river by Bethlehem Township, Pa., by Steel City fire departments water rescue team and was pronounced dead at 11:30 a.m., police said.

The man's car was found on Interstate 78 West ramp with a suicide note inside, police said.

Police are still investigating and ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call Trooper Michael Kalinchock at 610-759-6106.
