Clearing up the Lloyd Irons rumor; and giving the lineup for "Calling All Sports"

FROM KEITH GROLLER

There was a rumor going around the local basketball community over the weekend that Salisbury High star and newly-named Colonial League MVP Lloyd Irons was rushed to the hospital and had been hospitalized with a stroke.

It turns out that the rumor is only partially true.

Irons was rushed to the hospital on Saturday afternoon and spent the night at St. Luke's in Bethlehem, but the issue wasn't a stroke -- it was dehydration.

Irons was treated and released on Sunday night. He was cleared to resume normal activities and participated in Salisbury's practice on Monday morning.

He later appeared with Salisbury coach Jason Weaver and several teammates on The Morning Call's "Calling All Sports" television show which can be seen at 8 p.m. tonight on Service Electric TV2 and at 6 p.m. Tuesday on RCN-4.

"I passed out from dehydration and I was rushed to the hospital," Irons said. "They treated me and kept me in for observation and the doctors couldn't find anything. They monitored my heart and everything. I was released and sent me home on Sunday night.

"It was a scary situation. My first question was 'Will I be able to play basketball?' and they told me not to worry about that and I should just worry about getting healthy," Irons said. "They cleared me and I was at practice this morning and I felt fine.

"I am happy to be back. I am glad it was no stroke or nothing. It was nice that people showed how much they cared. I was glad my teammates came into see me and even the Notre Dame coach [Pat Boyle] came in."

In addition to Irons, Salisbury players Brent Maron and Dan Reichenbach are on the show as are Emmaus coach Steve Yoder and senior player Steve Gigler.
