CBS, Turner Unveil March Madness Live, Which Will Cost, For Some, $3.99

CBS Sports and Turner Sports, in conjunction with the NCAA, has introduced it’s online product for this year’s Division 1 Men’s Basketball Tournament. And for the first time, it will not be free for all.

March Madness Live is this year’s product, replacing March Madness On Demand. As with last year viewers will be able to watch all 67 games of the 2012 tournament online that are produced by Turner Sports and CBS.

The fee to watch the games on a PC, mobile device or tablet will be $3.99. But many will still be able to watch online for free. If you have a cable or satellite subscription to the Turner stations (TNT, TBS or truTV) you will be able to watch the stream via Turner’s authenticated TV Everywhere initiative.

All games telecast on CBS will be streamed free of charge on CBSSports.com.

March Madness Live will have many of the special features fans have enjoyed in years past. Access to the site will be made available March 7th with the tournament beginning on March 13th

“Turner Sports, CBS Sports and the NCAA are committed to providing the excitement of March Madness on as many screens as possible – television, online, mobile and tablets – for viewers to experience all of the exciting action of this great event wherever they are,” said Matthew Hong, senior vice president and general manager of operations for Turner Sports in a press release. “Combining TBS, CBS, TNT and truTV with the enhanced offerings of the new NCAA® March Madness® product provides fans with instantaneous on-the-go access ensuring they won’t miss a moment of the 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.”

“We continue to look at ways to bring the tournament to more of our fan base and keep them connected to the excitement that culminates with the Final Four,” said NCAA interim executive vice president of championships and alliances Greg Shaheen. “NCAA® March Madness® Live is one of many options college basketball fans will have to watch this year’s tournament how they want, when they want.

I'm not going to worry about any extra apps or cost this season when watching my March Madness. I don't really relish the idea having to pay extra to "enjoy" a game on my iPhone's 4" screen either. Instead, I'll be catching all the action in HD, for FREE, with my DISH account. DISH has the largest lineup of HD channels in the industry, and as they recently extended their HD Free for Life promotion I will be saving money at the same time! DISH features all four March Madness channels in HD, so not only will I get the great HD quality I am accustomed to, I won't have to squint to watch it on my phone! A bunch of my DISH coworkers and I signed up at the same time, and we just feel we are getting a great deal no matter WHAT the event!
