Sports Media Weekly Podcast No. 88- John Collins, COO, NHL

Ken Fang of Fang’s Bites and I are back with another edition of the Sports Media Weekly Podcast.

As with last week we begin this week’s program talking about the historic ratings for the NFL Divisional Playoffs, specifically the 45.1 million viewer audience on Fox for Giants/Packers.

We also talk about efforts in Washington to see if it is time for the NFL to relax its television blackout rules. (Ken and I both say yes)

We finish the news portion of the show by previewing the early selections by ESPN for its Sunday Night Baseball schedule and examining the impact of Muhammed Ali, who celebrated his 70th birthday yesterday.

Our guest this week is John Collins, Chief Operating Officer for the NHL. We talk with John about how the season has progressed thus far, the league’s relationship with NBC, the success of the Winter Classic and 24/7, and the future of the league, in terms of its collective bargaining agreement with the players and its soon-to-be negotiation for television rights in Canada.
