Nazareth Area High School's Chuck Dibilio stable, steadily improving after suffering stroke

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

Nazareth Area High School boys basketball coach Joe Arndt visited former two-sport star Chuck Dibilio in Philadelphia this afternoon, after Dibilio was admitted to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital after suffering a stroke on Thursday night.

The coach confirmed an earlier report that Dibilio was with a study group, lost feeling in his arm and began slurring his speech. The other students immediately called 911 and Dibilio was taken to Princeton University Hospital.

From there he was flown to Philadelphia.

"He's improving a little bit every hour," Arndt said as he was driving back to the valley for tonight's game against Allen. "He knows what's going on. He knows you. He's alert. He's moving his body parts and stuff."

Arndt said prior to tonight's home game against the Canaries, the community will offer their prayers and thoughts to Chuck and the Dibilio family.

Ryan Dibilio, a junior on the basketball team, will wear Chuck's No. 32 jersey tonight, Arndt confirmed.

Dibilio, the 2010 Express-Times Football Player of the Year, was also named the Ivy League's Rookie of the Year this past fall for the Tigers' football team.

Nazareth football coach Rob Melosky also visited Dibilio this afternoon, picking up former teammate Danny Wilk from Penn, as well.

"We went to see him. He was happy and upbeat," Melosky said. "He has a bit of a recovery phase to go through now. It's tough to see one of your premier athletes in the condition he's in right now; it's frustrating. If there's anyone who will get through it, it's Chucky."

Dibilio overcame a spleen injury prior to his senior year at Nazareth where part of the organ failed and his season was in doubt.
