ESPN Reports Big Online Numbers for 2011

ESPN has compiled impressive statistics on their online presence in 2011. Here are some of the highlights:

ESPN.com led the sports category with an average minute audience of nearly 77,000 users. It also averaged 3.3 billion total minutes per month and captured nearly a third (32 percent) of all minutes spent with sports sites online. Additionally, ESPN.com averaged 41.8 million unique visitors per month ( according to comScore). Compared to last year, ESPN.com’s monthly average minute audience was up 10 percent and daily unique visitors up 8 percent.

Fans watched nearly 1.9 billion videos in 2011. It logged more than 39 percent of all sports related video streams in 2011, up 41 percent vs. 2010 and 253 percent more than the streams of its closest competitor.

The five local ESPN websites also fared well, on average collectively reached 8.7 million unique visitors and generated 77.2 million minutes per month.

ESPN also launched Bill Simmons Grantland.com in 2011. In six months the site garners 2.3 million unique visitors who generate 27 million minutes per month.

ESPN launched the WatchESPN app last year, with 5.6 million downloads since April. ESPN3 is now available in 70 million homes. It had 6.1 million unique viewers that generated 11.6 million total hours consumed during 2011.

ESPN’s mobile site was again the most viewed sports site in the mobile space. It attracted more than 17.6 million users seeking sports on the mobile Web.
