AFC & NFC Championship Ratings Strong for CBS and Fox

Bot CBS and Fox are proclaiming ratings success from yesterday’s AFC and NFC Championship games.

Yesterday’s ratings for the AFC Championship game between the Ravens and the Patriots on CBS registered at 27.1, down from last year’s rating of 31.3 for the Jets and Steelers. Last year’s game was in primetime.

Yesterday’s afternoon telecast was the highest rated afternoon AFC Championship game in 17 years. CBS’ coverage in a compartive window last occurrred in 2012 when the Jets and Colts earned a rating of 28.4. The average audience for thr game was 48.7 million viewers, the largest audience for an afternoon AFC Championship game in 30 years.

The overnight rating for the NFC Championship, which was in primetime on Fox, came in with a rating of 30.6, below last year’s late window on CBS, but 9% higher than the NFC Championship game of a year ago, the afternoon contest between the Packers and Bears. The average audience for the game was 57.6 million viewers, the third most-watched Conference Championship game ever.

For the entire playoff season, the NFC on Fox averaged a rating of 23.9, making it the most watched NFL playoffs ever.
