Pius X's Matt Camilletti is headed to St. Francis of Pennsylvania

FROM KEITH GROLLER

Pius X football coach Phil Stambaugh announced earlier today that star receiver Matt Camilletti will continue his career at St. Francis of Loretto.

Camilletti had one of the most prolific pass-catching careers in District 11 history. He ranks second all-time, behind only Central Catholic's Kevin Gulyas, with 183 career receptions and 2,642 receiving yards.
In 2011, he helped the Royals win their second All-American League title, their fourth District 11 Class A crown and advance to the state quarterfinals. Pius X finished 12-2 as Camilletti caught 58 passes for 783 yards and seven touchdowns. He also kicked 41 PATs.

Camilletti was a second-team Morning Call All-Area choice at wide receiver. He was also PA Football News' first-team all-state tight end and was also an all-league and all-area selection.

St. Francis, coming off a 2-9 season, plays in the Northeast Conference. The Red Flash also features Easton graduate Kyle Harbridge, who is coming off a stellar junior season in which he ran for 1,474 yards on 249 carries and scored 14 touchdowns. Harbridge was a third-team All-American selection by the Beyond Sports Network.

Harbridge, by the way, ranked top-seven nationally in rushing yards per game and in the top five in all-purpose yards. His season was highlighted by his game against Morehead State where he rushed for 346 yards (the fifth-most in FCS history) and racked up 457 all-purpose yards, missing the FCS record by just 10 yards.

Islanders, Devils to play first hockey game at new Brooklyn arena

FROM KEITH GROLLER

They've been talking about a new arena in Brooklyn for so long that you began to doubt it was ever going to get built.

But it is, and the first sporting event for the Barclays Center has been announced. It's a preseason NHL hockey game between the New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils.

Here are the details courtesy of the New York Islanders:

UNIONDALE, NY/BROOKLYN, NY (January 31, 2012) – The New York Islanders will play the first-ever NHL game at Barclays Center on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012 when they take on the New Jersey Devils at 7:30 p.m. The preseason game will mark the first hockey event at Barclays Center, the new major sports and entertainment venue, which will officially open on September 28 with the first of multiple JAY-Z concerts. The game will also mark the first NHL game to be played in Brooklyn.

“We’re extremely excited to play the first NHL game in the new, state-of-the-art Barclays Center,” Islanders General Manager Garth Snow said. “We already have some of the most passionate fans in the league supporting our young team, and we are looking forward to expanding our base into Brooklyn.”

“We feel Brooklyn is an untapped hockey market that offers the Islanders with an exciting opportunity to grow its fan base,” Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark said. “Barclays Center will also afford current Islander fans with great accessibility, as the Long Island Rail Road and nine subway lines will come directly to the arena at the Atlantic Terminal transit hub.”

In addition to hosting hockey, Barclays Center will showcase an extensive variety of more than 220 events annually, including premier concerts, monthly major professional boxing cards, top college basketball, family shows, and NETS Basketball. Some of the special programming that is already scheduled includes JAY-Z, Andrea Bocelli, the Barclays Center Classic college basketball tournament, presented by Sheets Brand, featuring Kentucky vs. Maryland, Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Championship, Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, Legends Classic, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Disney on Ice, and the New York Masters equestrian show jumping competition. Current programming alliances with Barclays Center include Golden Boy Promotions, IMG, Feld Entertainment, Lagardère Unlimited, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

Fans are encouraged to visit www.barclayscenter.com.

Double dose of Nick at Night on local TV

FROM KEITH GROLLER

RCN-4 viewers are a lucky bunch.

They still have an opportunity to see and hear The Morning Call's Nick Fierro twice this week.

Fierro is the one and only guest on tonight's "Calling All Sports" show, seen at 6 p.m. (Service Electric viewers, hopefully, saw the show on Monday night).

And then Fierro is back -- live this time -- on the Chris Michael-hosted "SportsTalk" show on Thursday night at 6.

The Eagles and Super Bowl talk -- and you can't get enough of either topic, can you? -- will be the focus on both shows.

On the Thursday night show, fans have the added bonus of calling in and peppering Nick with questions.

The phone number to call into the show live is 610-443-2766.

Antenna TV In Cleveland Soars In Ratings; Remembering All in the Family Director John Rich and Seinfeld's "Mr. Pitt"

Antenna TV continues to grow in the ratings as it is just a little over a year old now. Viewers are flocking in for some classic TV, especially in the Cleveland market last month. Antenna TV on Cleveland's WJW-DT2 equaled the delivery of cable networks such as Oxygen, Nat Geo and The Big 10 Network in Cleveland from 3pm-12a Monday-Friday in the December 2011 sweep. Antenna TV beat cable networks WGN America, Starz, Military Channel, Weather Channel, Disney XD, Nicktoons, NBC Sports Network, NFL Network, BBC America, Oprah Winfrey Network and MTV2 in Cleveland in the sweep as well. Some of the great performing TV series on Cleveland's Antenna TV includes Leave It To Beaver, which airs weeknights from 6-7pm. The classic sitcom outperformed programs on WKYC, WBNX, WOIO and WUAB in December 2011! The sitcom averaged a 0.3/1 rating/share in both adults 18-49 and adults 25-54, beating first-run programs like The Talk, Dr. Drew, Anderson, Family Feud and America Now. Also performing well for Antenna TV in Cleveland is the Friday primetime 8-9pm airing of Too Close for Comfort, ranking second of all Antenna TV series on weekdays on WJW-DT2 with a 0.2/1 rating/share in both adults 18-49 and adults 25-54. The same goes true for the classic sitcom Dennis the Menace which airs weeknights from 5-6pm leading into Leave it to Beaver at 6pm.
On weekends, Adam-12 has done well outperforming programs on WKYC, WBNX, WOIO, WVPX, WEWS, WJW and WUAB! The series airs Saturday nights from 8-9pm and delivers a 0.2/1 rating/share in adults 18-49 and a 0.3/1 rating/share in adults 25-54! Talk about being "hot in Cleveland" as Antenna TV continues to grow. Stay with us for the Antenna TV spring schedule (and not just for Cleveland, but all Antenna TV stations!) that will begin in April and will have the addition of WKRP in Cincinnati, as we mentioned.

We have a couple of recent deaths to tell you about. John Rich, an award-winning television director for The Dick Van Dyke Show and All in the Family, has died. Rich died on January 29 at his Los Angeles home after a brief illness. Mr. Rich was 86.

His nearly 50-year career in Hollywood included directing and producing episodes of many different television series. Rich directed over 40 episodes of The Dick Van Dyke Show and won his first Emmy in 1963. He directed over 80 episodes of All in the Family and won two Emmys and two Golden Globes for his work on the series. The memorable scene of Sammy Davis, Jr. kissing Archie Bunker in the episode Sammy's Visit was directed by him. His many other directing credits included episodes of I Married Joan, Where's Raymond?, Our Miss Brooks, Gilligan's Island, Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., The Brady Bunch, That Girl, Good Times, Barney Miller, Newhart, Benson and Dear John. In the 1980s Rich and Henry Winkler formed a production company called Henry Winkler/John Rich Productions and together they produced MacGyver for Paramount Television from 1985-92.

You can view an extensive interview with him at the Archive of American Television. Rich is survived by his wife of 22 years, Patricia; his three children, Catherine, Anthony and Robert; his three stepchildren, Megan Lewis, Kimberly Beres and Dana Benton; and eight grandchildren. We thank him for bringing us many hours of quality television. He will be missed.

Ian Abercrombie, a veteran English actor who played Elaine Benes' boss Mr. Pitt during the sixth season on Seinfeld, has died. Abercrombie died at a Los Angeles hospital on January 26 from complications of kidney failure and recently had been diagnosed with lymphoma. Mr. Abercrombie was 77.

His American stage debut was a 1951 production of Stalag 17 with Jason Robards and Jules Munshin. Abercrombie made guest appearances on many television series such as Dynasty, Falcon Crest, Murphy Brown, NewsRadio, Star Trek: Voyager, State of Grace, Birds of Prey, Desperate Housewives, How I Met Your Mother, Happily Divorced and Wizards of Waverly Place. He voiced characters in The Batman, Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Rango. His film credits included Army of Darkness, Addams Family Values, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties. We'll never forget his memorable and hilarious character on Seinfeld. He was just a very solid and dependable character actor. Mr. Abercrombie is survived by his wife, Gladys, and his brothers Douglas, Donald and Alex. He will be missed.

Who can forget Mr. Pitt eating a Snickers bar with a knife and fork? What are your favorite Mr. Pitt moments? Discuss them on our Seinfeld message board.

Lehighton's new football coach has coached at Whitehall and Catty

FROM KEITH GROLLER

Tom McCarroll was approved as Lehighton's new football coach last week and the 34-year-old Marian Catholic and Colgate University graduate has spent the last five years as an assistant coach in the Lehigh Valley.

McCarroll got his coaching start at Marian, but was on Tony Trisciani's staff at Whitehall for two years and spent the last three with Tom Falzone at Catasauqua.

"I've been exposed to a lot of different leagues and actually when it comes to the area the Mountain Valley Conference is the only league or conference I haven't coached in," McCarroll said.

McCarroll lives in Lehighton and has been teaching in Reading, but will become a special education teacher at Whitehall very shortly.

He is excited about his first head coaching position.

"Lehighton is a place where football has been important for a very long time," McCarroll said. "There's a good tradition in Lehighton and going back through the years, they've been in the playoffs. There's an opportunity there; there's support there and it's exciting to be the next guy in line. I am excited to be a part of it and want to do what I can to get Lehighton back on track."

McCarroll was a defensive back at Colgate, but has coached on the offensive side of the ball in high school.

"I've learned so much by working for three great head coaches and I have to give them so much credit," McCarroll said. "Stan Dakosty [Marian's longtime coach] is just a class act and showed me how a program should be run. And then Coach Trisciani was just a stickler for detail at Whitehall and really taught X's and O's and the great concepts behind them.

"Coach Falzone has such great energy and enthusiasm that's contagious and the kids really want to play for him. They'll do anything for him. So, I've been really lucky to be with these three guys who each bring different, positive facets to coaching. I'm going to try to take a little bit from each of them and implement my own program and put my own stamp on Lehighton football."

The Indians are coming off a 4-6 season in which five of the losses came by seven points or less. Lehighton is going to graduate 24 or 25 seniors, according to McCarroll, who said he still has some positions to fill on his coaching.

McCarroll is the third new head coach in the Mountain Valley Conference, joining the new guys in charge at both Allen and Dieruff who will play their first seasons in the MVC next fall.

Chuck Dibilio is sounding better, looking better every day

FROM THE MORNING CALL

I've talked to Chuck Dibilio several times over the years, often after big football and basketball performances while he was at Nazareth.

And I was thrilled to talk to him last September after he made a memorable collegiate debut for Princeton in the Tigers' season-opener against Lehigh. Princeton lost that night, but Dibilio's debut was memorable — 86 yards on 14 carries and a 26-yard TD reception.

Thomas Jefferson But of all the Dibilio interviews I've done, he has never sounded better to me than he did on Monday night.

That's because just 10 days after he suffered a stroke that prompted him to be flown by helicopter from the Princeton campus to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Dibilio was doing well.

He had just gotten back from a therapy session at Good Shepherd in Allentown and was feeling strong and upbeat, just like nothing had ever happened.

"I've definitely made a lot of progress," he said. "When it first happened, I couldn't talk or move my right arm or leg. I'm not quite 100 percent, yet, but I just started going for therapy three times a week. Physically, I'm fine. I just need to work on my speech and some mental things."

Dibilio is back at home, where he is wisely taking it easy, getting some extra rest and trying to get the answers to why a stroke would strike one of the healthiest, fittest 19-year-olds on the planet.

At the moment that's the most frustrating part for Dibilio and his entire family, including his mother, Bonnie Coyle Ronco, who is a doctor.

The hospital conducted a battery of tests to determine the stroke's cause and complete results have yet to come in, although there's likely linkage to a spleen infection Dibilio had in the summer before his senior year at Nazareth.

"Everything that has come back has been normal so far," Ronco said. "There's still some tests pending that are looking into a clotting disorder. So, no, we don't understand why it happened yet, but everyone feels fairly certain that's it's related to his spleen. We just need to know what's causing him to have blood clotting that's more than normal."

However, while the wait for answers continues, Dibilio continues to show progress every day.

"He needs therapy for his cognitive skills and his ability to process language and respond appropriately," his mother said. "That's where he needs the help. But he looks good and every day you can see and hear a difference. It's looks promising that he's going to get all the way back to normal. But it's just going to take time."

Dibilio said he is struggling with his reading comprehension, but he's getting better.

In terms of a return to class at Princeton or football, no timetable has been set. All that matters at the moment is making sure that he continues to recover and that he is completely healthy before he returns to normal activities.

"I'm definitely happy to be home right now," he said. "I would normally be home now anyway because we're in between semesters at Princeton. It's definitely better to be home than at the hospital. I didn't have much fun there."

Princeton has been in daily contact with Dibilio.

"The school has been very supportive," Ronco said.

Dibilio has two final exams still to take from the fall semester. He was in a study group preparing for a final exam in calculus when he was stricken.

"We're not exactly sure when I will be able to get back to class and there's a possibility I will only take one class in the next semester or maybe wait until the summer," he said. "With football, I have no idea. Right now, I am planning on returning. But we still have to see what the test results show and what medications I may need.

"I am definitely optimistic I will play again, but I still have to be cleared. It may take a month or so before I can start to lift and sprint again. It has been a long time since I've gone this long without exercise and I miss it."

Those who know Dibilio have no doubt he will do whatever it takes to get back to where he wants to be.

In the hours and days after the stroke, the Nazareth and Lehigh Valley sports communities opened up their arms and embraced Dibilio through an abundance of cards, flowers, Facebook messages, texts and other forms of get-well wishes.

As one of the most prominent high school athletes in the area, Dibilio not only impressed with his talents, but earned admiration with his work ethic and desire. It's that compassion that has boosted Dibilio and his family through this ordeal.

"I have so many people to thank," he said. "And it starts with my friends who saw I was in trouble that night. They saw I couldn't talk and called the hospital within a minute. I might not still be here without their help. I am lucky to be alive and while I am a little frustrated right now that I can't do everything I want to do, I am determined to do everything I can to get better."

Lehigh's local flavor continues to grow with the addition of Pen Argyl's Gym

FROM KEITH GROLLER

Lehigh football's recruiting class continues to take shape and while the complete list won't be announced until late this week or early next week, it's exciting to know that several local kids are headed to South Mountain.

It's exciting because more local kids means more local interest in Mountain Hawks football.

Last week it was announced that Central Catholic's Noah Robb and Parkland's Matt Laub were headed to the two-time Patriot League champs and we've now learned that Pen Argyl quarterback Conor Gum is also going to wear the Brown and White.

And that means Conor's father, the late Jimmy Gum, has to be ecstatic.

Jimmy played at Lehigh and had a stellar career, but died in May of 2006 after a battle with ALS. Jimmy Gum was just 43.

Every year at the Brown and White Game to close spring practice at Lehigh, a scholarship is given in Jimmy's name and the entire Gum family is there for the presentation. They have always been proud to be associated with Lehigh University.

My guess is that there's no place Conor would rather go than Lehigh and there's no recruit that coach Andy Coen would be more proud to have in his program than Conor Gum.

As for Gum's senior year at Pen Argyl, he passed for 1,131 yards and 14 touchdowns.

In his first year as a starter at QB, he helped guide the Green Knights into the 2A state quarterfinals.

TV NEWS ON JANUARY 30

We didn't get a chance to bring this to you last week, but TV Land has made a schedule change that started today. One of the Murder, She Wrote airings has been moved to 8am effective today (Jan. 30). The Angela Lansbury drama will still remain at 1pm, as it was airing back-to-back at 12pm and 1pm. Murder replaces an hour of Leave it to Beaver, which shifts to the 9am hour replacing Dick Van Dyke. Not to worry, The Dick Van Dyke Show will now be in the 10am hour instead. Andy Griffith Show will go from 10am-12pm to now 11am-1pm. So nothing is getting replaced, just the times are changing from 8am-1pm. Everything else will remain the same in daytime, evenings and primetime. Late nights will have some changes, though. Roseanne was airing 2-3am, but now The Nanny will take the 2:30am slot and keep its 3am half-hour. Three's Company was airing 4-6am, but now will air earlier from 3:30-4:30am, while a second Roseanne will air at 4:30am. Three's Company will remain on weekend late nights from 4-6am, though. Home Improvement will get an encore airing now from 5-6am, as it also airs in primetime from 8-9pm. How about some more power? You got it, because Home Improvement will now air on Saturdays too from 7-9pm.
We'll come back in the coming days to highlight the March 2012 schedule, but it's pretty much the same as this. Just some movie airings and original comedy Happily Divorced returns March 7.

Parkland rally falls short, Trojans lose to Scranton 54-49

FROM KEITH GROLLER

It was a lost weekend for the Parkland Trojans boys basketball team.

Two close, competitive games and two tough losses for the Trojans who have now dropped two straight after losing just once in their first 16 games. This one was not as heartbreaking as Friday's loss at the buzzer to Allen.

The Trojans fell to Scranton 54-49 in a game they never led.

Zach Muhr led Parkland with 18 points, but the Trojans didn't have the firepower to match an impressive Scranton team that could be a contender in the PIAA 4A tournament.

It was not a very good day for the Lehigh Valley as Central Catholic was blown out by Council Rock North in the day's opener.

Overall, the crowd was down here at Parkland for the Showcase. The only buzz was created by an appearance by Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, who was recruiting St. Benedict's Tyler Ennis.

Rutgers coach Mike Rice was also here, but overall, the day lacked its usual sizzle.

Maybe the fact that The Comcast Network televised all four games live kept a few fans away. I don't know.

But the Hoop Group people still love Parkland and plan to be back here again next year.

For the local high school boys basketball scene, it's back to the regular season on Tuesday night. I am looking forward to the Emmaus-Freedom game.

Just two weeks left in the regular season. The good stuff is just about to begin.

TV NEWS ON JANUARY 29

2011-12 Week 19 TV Ratings (first four nights, Mon-Thu):

Households: #1. Fox 7.1 rating/10.9 share; #2. CBS 6.5/10.3; #3. ABC 3.7/5.8; #4. NBC 3.3/5.1; #5. The CW 0.8/1.2
Total Viewers: #1. Fox 12.1 million; #2. CBS 10.33 million; #3. ABC 5.62 million; #4. NBC 5.04 million; #5. The CW 1.14 million.
Adults 18-49: #1. Fox 4.0 rating/10.5 share; #2. CBS 2.5/6.6; #3. ABC 1.7/4.4; #4. NBC 1.5/4.0, #5. The CW 0.5/1.4

Week 19 (Jan. 23-29) Analysis: Week 19 had more repeats than new episodes, but Fox was headlined by American Idol of course, even with big drops from last season it was more than enough for the lead through the first four nights. The first four night network averages has Fox on top in all categories over CBS. ABC follows in third everywhere. And then NBC is back in fourth place, where it deserves to be. When the week is over with, it will likely remain like this but NBC will likely surpass repeat driven ABC due to the NFL Pro Bowl tonight. More on the prediction of week 19 below. As for last week, week 18, Fox won the week big in all key categories thanks to the primetime NFL NFC Championship Game on Sunday that did 57.63 million. CBS was a distant second everywhere, but ABC tied them for second in 18-49. ABC was third in HH/viewers, while NBC was fourth across the board with no NFL to help them at all.

On Monday, it was a Fox victory as usual Monday leader CBS was in repeats. First, on ABC, The Bachelor started it off from 8-10pm with 8.3 million and a 2.7 18-49 rating, up from previous week and a season high. Like I predicted, it will likely go higher and higher now until the finale. At 10pm, Castle was all-new and did a solid 10.05 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, down a tenth from its previous week but up in viewers. For CBS, How I Met Your Mother was a repeat doing 6.94 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating, which is a solid repeat number. Then a repeat of the breakout hit 2 Broke Girls followed doing a better 7.76 million and a 2.6 18-49 rating, with nice builds from the lead-in like usual. At 9pm, a repeat of Two and a Half Men did 9.78 million and a 2.9 18-49 rating, which is great and the standout of the block for this night. A repeat of Mike & Molly followed and did 8.25 million and a 2.4 18-49 rating, which is solid for a repeat. A repeat of Hawaii Five-0 was next doing 6.88 million and a 1.6 18-49 rating, as it doesn't repeat nearly as well as the comedy lead-ins. Fox premiered House on its new time of 8pm with 8.76 million and a 3.1 18-49 rating, which is solid and up some from its usual ratings this season. Will it last though? New drama Alcatraz was next at 9pm and did 9.03 million and a 3.0 18-49 rating, only off some from its two-hour premiere the previous week. That's solid and it needs to stay around here or it will be like Terra Nova and likely not return. NBC started it off with game show Who's Still Standing? and did 6.44 million and a 1.7 18-49 rating, which is OK. Fear Factor was preempted, as NBC aired a two-hour Rock Center with Brian Williams featuring the GOP debate and did 7.13 million and a 1.6 18-49 rating, up from previous week and better than usual. The CW was all-new, at 8pm a new Gossip Girl did 1.11 million and a 0.6 18-49 rating, which is not good but on par with previous week. At 9pm a new Hart of Dixie did 1.23 million and a 0.5 18-49 rating. Not good.

On Tuesday, the State of the Union aired so everything was atypical. CBS had a repeat of NCIS do 12.55 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, which was off a tenth from previous week. Then they aired the State of the Union, preempting NCIS: Los Angeles and Unforgettable. A repeat of The Big Bang Theory started at about 10:40pm and was joined in progress. ABC started with a repeat of comedy Last Man Standing with Tim Allen leading the night off doing 5.42 million and a 1.5 18-49 rating. At 8:30pm a repeat followed, doing a similar 5.12 million and a 1.5 18-49 rating. Then Celebrity Wife Swap and Body of Proof were preempted for the State of the Union. The River premieres with a two-hour premiere next Tuesday (Feb. 7). Back to this night, a repeat of Modern Family was joined in progress after the speech at 10:40pm. Fox preempted Glee for a repeat of Sunday's special American Idol and did 9.64 million and a 3.4 18-49 rating, which was a good move as it is higher than a new Glee episode. Ouch. Then the comedies New Girl and Raising Hope were preempted for the State of the Union. NBC was next with The Biggest Loser only from 8-9pm doing 6.42 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, which is down some from the previous week when it was two-hours. Parenthood was preempted as NBC aired the State of the Union. The CW started it off with a new 90210 and did 1.24 million and a 0.7 18-49 rating, not good but up a tenth from previous week. Then at 9pm, Ringer was preempted for a new episode of new reality series Remodeled and did only 890,000 viewers and a 0.4 18-49 rating, not good but up a tenth from the premiere the previous week.

Wednesday it was Fox with the win even though Idol is much lower than last season. First, CBS started the night off with a repeat of Criminal Minds doing 7.85 million and a 1.8 18-49 rating, which is solid. Then at 9pm, a new Criminal Minds did 13.81 million and a 3.7 18-49 rating, up solidly from previous week. And at 10pm a new CSI did 14.26 million and a 3.4 18-49 rating, which is above normal for the final episode of Marg Helgenberger and by far a season high. ABC was in repeats for its Laugh On comedy block with The Middle doing 5.25 million and a 1.5 18-49 rating, which is OK for a repeat and beat competing NBC which was new. Suburgatory followed at 8:30pm with 4.22 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating, which also beat NBC's competing new comedy. The mega hit Modern Family was next at 9pm and it did 6.5 million and 2.5 18-49 rating for a repeat, which is solid. At 9:30pm, Happy Endings was a repeat and did 3.95 million and a 1.7 18-49 rating. At 10pm a repeat of the addicting Revenge did 3.13 million and a 0.9 18-49 rating, which doesn't repeat well but the next two new episodes on Feb. 8 and 15 will be big. ABC Wednesday returns with new episodes on Feb. 8, as this week are also repeats. Fox aired American Idol in the 8pm hour doing 19.67 million and a 6.5 18-49 rating, down nearly a full point from previous week (as I predicted!) when it was two-hours. Fox then previewed new drama Touch starring Kiefer Sutherland and did solid 12.01 million and a 3.9 18-49 rating. Great, but this show won't air a second episode until late March on Mondays. Will viewers return and it won't have an Idol lead-in normally. NBC opened the night with a new episode of the terrible series Whitney doing 4.4 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating, for another series low. Week three of Are You There, Chelsea followed with only 3.8 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating, down again from previous week. Not good for both sitcoms. At 9pm, Harry's Law was preempted for a repeat of Law & Order: SVU doing 3.64 million and a 1.2 18-49 rating, which is up a tenth from a new Harry's Law the previous week. Ouch Kathy Bates. And at 10pm, Law & Order: SVU was a repeat at its normal time and did 4.05 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating. The CW had a new One Tree Hill at 8pm doing 1.46 million and a 0.7 18-49 rating, on par with previous week. Then at 9pm a repeat of Remodeled did only 570,000 viewers and a 0.2 18-49 rating, off a tenth from previous week.

Thursday it was Fox over CBS. Starting with ABC, they opened the night with a repeat of Winter Wipeout doing 4.81 million and a 1.5 18-49 rating, not bad and down just a few tenths from a new episode the previous week. At 9pm, a repeat of Grey's Anatomy aired doing 4.05 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating. At 10pm, Private Practice was next and did just 2.75 million and a 0.8 18-49 rating for a repeat. ABC Thursday is new this week, as February sweep starts! Can you believe that? CBS opened with a new The Big Bang Theory at 16.13 million and a 5.5 18-49 rating, great and better than the previous week even with Idol airing opposite it again. In fact, it beat that show in its first half-hour for the second straight week and did a Thursday high! Wow. Then week three of Rob was next doing 11.5 million and a 3.5 18-49 rating, on par with previous week but its lead-in did go up some, so it had a better lead-in. Still decent. A repeat of Person of Interest did 10.54 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, which is solid but older skewing. A repeat of The Mentalist followed and did 9.64 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, good for first place on broadcast. Fox aired American Idol at 8pm doing 17.14 million and a 5.5 18-49 rating, great but off some from previous week. Then a new episode of The Finder at 9pm did a better 8.44 million and a 2.8 18-49 rating, up from previous week but this is "fool's gold" as ABC, CBS were repeats and NBC didn't air The Office. Look for back to around a 2.2 18-49 rating this Thursday. NBC was all-new with a new 30 Rock up first doing just 3.82 million and a 1.6 18-49 rating, tying a series low and looks on par with Community maybe. Then Parks and Recreation was next doing only 3.49 million and a 1.7 18-49 rating, for a series low. The Office was preempted at 9pm for another new 30 Rock and did just 3.98 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, as it is time for this show to finally end. It never had any good ratings. At 9:30pm Up All Night was a repeat and did just 2.97 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating, but it tied a new Whitney on Wednesday at least. What a mess NBC is into. At 10pm, a new episode of new drama The Firm did only 3.8 million and a 1.0 18-49 rating, which is up a tenth from previous week. Still Prime Suspect style. Total mismatch out of these comedies. The CW's big gun Vampire Diaries and new drama The Secret Circle were preempted for the movie Covenant and did just 1.31 million and a 0.5 18-49 rating.

Now, final numbers for Friday and Saturday are not available, but ABC won Friday night again with CBS dramas in repeats. ABC was #1 at 8pm with Shark Tank besting usual timeslot leader Kitchen Nightmares on Fox again. At 9pm What Would You Do? was #1 for the night and and 20/20 won the hour at 10pm. NBC's Chuck had its two-hour series finale which was up some but no where near good numbers, while Grimm was preempted. Fox had Fringe do terrible at 9pm and it doesn't look like another season is coming.
Saturday numbers have Fox win the night with UFC on Fox doing very well beating a distant second place ABC's movie Blades of Glory. CBS was close behind, with 48 Hours the highest rated program for CBS and NBC was dead last with U.S. Figure Skating.

Tonight ABC's regular Sunday of AFV, Once Upon a Time, Desperate Housewives and Pan Am is half new. The latter two programs are preempted for a Hallmark movie, while Once Upon a Time is new and should be number one for the night among TV series. NBC has the NFL Pro Bowl which should do decent and be good enough for a win for the night. CBS has an all-new 60 Minutes at 7pm followed by a new Undercover Boss, The Good Wife and CSI: Miami. CBS will likely be fourth place though. Fox has new episodes of Animation Domination, but no NFL lead-ins to help them. They should be second or third place, depending how the ABC movie does.

As for the week (week 19), it should be Fox with the win and close to what we have right now through the first four nights final averages. CBS will be second, followed by ABC, then NBC fourth for the week. Though, NBC could surpass ABC if the Pro Bowl does very well. As for the coming week (week 20), lots of repeats until Thursday then it is the start of February sweeps on Feb. 2. Then game is on all month with new episodes everywhere. Down with Idol!

Week 19 How the Sitcoms Did

Last Sunday Sitcoms (counts for Week 18 -- Jan. 16-22)

•The Simpsons (Fox) - preempted.
•Napoleon Dynamite (Fox) - preempted.

•The Cleveland Show (Fox) - preempted.

•Bob's Burgers (Fox) - preempted.

•Family Guy (Fox) - preempted.
•American Dad! (Fox) - preempted.

Monday Sitcoms
•How I Met Your Mother (CBS) - A repeat did 6.94 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating, which is solid for a repeat these days.

•2 Broke Girls (CBS) - A repeat did 7.76 million and a 2.6 18-49 rating, which is good and like usual built on its lead-in.

•Two and a Half Men (CBS) - 9.78 million and a 2.9 18-49 rating for a repeat is great and higher than lead-in 2 Broke Girls this time.

•Mike & Molly (CBS) - A repeat did 8.25 million and a 2.4 18-49 rating, solid but I still think it is the weak link of this block now. I think if it were moved elsewhere it wouldn't do as well, but it is a solid performer.

Tuesday Sitcoms

•Last Man Standing (ABC) 2 airings - A repeat in its 8pm half-hour did 5.42 million and a 1.5 18-49 rating, lower than usual but in some places it aired out of its normal slot due to the State of the Union. A second repeat at 8:30pm did a similar 5.12 million and a 1.5 18-49 rating.

•Cougar Town (ABC) - Returns Feb. 14 at 8:30/7:30c! Tune in and spread the word. Penny Can!
•Modern Family (ABC) - ABC aired a repeat after the State of the Union which was joined in progress at 10:40pm in the East and Central time zones doing 3.62 million and a 0.9 18-49 rating.
•The Big Bang Theory (CBS) - Like ABC, a repeat of this aired after the State of the Union, and was JIP doing 5.25 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating.

•New Girl (Fox) - preempted.

•Raising Hope (Fox) - preempted.

Wednesday Sitcoms

•The Middle (ABC) - A repeat did 5.25 million and a 1.5 18-49 rating, beating a new Whitney on NBC. All you can say is, wow.

•Suburgatory (ABC) - A repeat did 4.22 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating.

•Whitney (NBC) - A new episode did just 4.4 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating, which is another series low.

•Are You There, Chelsea? (NBC) - Week three did only 3.8 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating, down again from previous week and 'Are You There, TV Ratings?'

•Modern Family (ABC) - A repeat did 6.5 million and a 2.5 18-49 rating, just as good as the CBS Monday sitcom repeats.

•Happy Endings (ABC) - A repeat did 3.97 million and a 1.7 18-49 rating, as I hope more and more find this show. It is too good.

Thursday Sitcoms

•The Big Bang Theory (CBS) - A new episode did 16.13 million and a 5.5 18-49 rating, great and it beat Idol head-to-head again. Up some from previous week and a Thursday high. I guess syndication is bringing in new fans?

•Rob (CBS) - Week three did 11.5 million and a 3.5 18-49 rating, which is solid against Idol and on par with previous week, though its lead-in was higher this week.

•30 Rock (NBC) 2 airings - A new episode at 8pm did just 3.82 million and a 1.6 18-49 rating, for a series low. A second episode at a special time of 9pm proved it can't anchor an hour doing just 3.98 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating. Time for it to pack its bags finally. It never was a hit.

•Parks and Recreation (NBC) - A new episode at 8:30pm did only 3.49 million and a 1.7 18-49 rating, for a series low. Not a good night at all for NBC.

•The Office (NBC) - preempted.

•Up All Night (NBC) - A repeat did 2.97 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating. Yes, a repeat but all momentum this show gad earlier in the fall is completely gone.

Friday Sitcoms

•None.

Saturday Sitcoms

•Rules of Engagement (CBS) - A Saturday repeat did a prelim 2.6 million and a prelim 0.6 18-49 rating. Not too good even for a Saturday.
•Mike & Molly (CBS) - A Saturday repeat did a prelim 3.01 million and a prelim 0.7 18-49 rating.

Airing tonight (Sunday) are Fox's animated comedies from 7-10pm, with new episodes airing from 7:30-10pm.

Summing it up. The Big Bang Theory, Rob, Two and a Half Men, 2 Broke Girls, Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother, Mike & Molly were impressive for the week. Everything else was OK (such as Happy Endings, The Middle) or just plain old terrible (such as all NBC comedy airings like Are You There Chelsea, Parks & Recreation).

Central Catholic routed by Council Rock North, 75-49 in Hoop Group event

FROM KEITH GROLLER

It was close for a half, but District One power Council Rock had too much firepower for Central Catholic and pulled away in the second half for a 75-49 victory in the first game of four at the 17th annual Lehigh Valley Hoop Group Showcase at Parkland.

The Indians, coached by former Moravian standout Derek Wright, improved to 14-3, placing four guys in double figures.

Aaron Morgan, a UMBC recruit, led the way with 19 points and five assists.

Aaron Goodman, who is headed to Philadelphia University, added 18 points.

Morgan scored 13 points in the second half and Goodman added 11 after intermission as Council Rock North outscored CCHS 44-23 after halftime.

Council Rock North made nine 3-pointers, including six in the second half.

The Vikings (11-7) had lots of foul trouble and no one reached double figures.

Jean Lee Baez and Muhammad Ali Abdur-Rahkman had nine points apiece while Jimmy Vaughan and Mike Kammerer had eight apiece.

The loss denied CCHS coach Rich Fatzinger from reaching the 500-win mark in his coaching career. The 499 wins for Fatzinger includes his 12 seasons as the Parkland girls coach. He's 499-281 overall. In 18 boys seasons at Parkland and CCHS, Fatzinger is 316-154.

Nazareth Area High School's Chuck Dibilio pushes to get back to 100 percent after stroke

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

Anyone familiar with Chuck Dibilio knows what type of person he is.

Dedicated. Loyal. Hard working. Humble. Positive.

So it's no surprise that the former Nazareth Area High School football and basketball star was able to joke and laugh while talking about suffering a stroke on Jan. 19.

"I got all my (football) records and that, but I go in the hospital and now I am national," Dibilio said at his home on Saturday night. "That's probably the only good thing to come out of this, is that I got on SportsCenter."

Dibilio, a 19-year-old freshman running back at Princeton University, is on the road to recovery after suffering the stroke while studying for a final exam and spending one week in Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.

The 2011 Ivy League Rookie of the Year vividly remembers what occurred that evening, having recited the series of events countless times since.

"I was with four teammates and we were studying for a calculus final we had on Friday morning," he recalled. "I was talking about the fundamental theorem of calculus then all of a sudden my voice was terrible, I couldn't talk at all and it was just 'blah, blah, blah.' Then my right arm and right leg I couldn't move at all, so they called 911 right away.

"In like a minute, the ambulance was there and I went to the hospital at Princeton. Then they helicoptered me to Jefferson in Philly and I got my surgery there."

Dibilio, who said he remembers the majority of the night minus a few details, said he didn't lose consciousness during the whole ordeal.

On the morning of Jan. 20, he underwent a procedure to alleviate a blood clot in the main artery of his brain.

He remained in the hospital until Wednesday.

"Honestly I just slept a lot, I was exhausted the entire time," he said. "A lot of people came by -- coaches from high school and college and friends from college and even some from up here. It was fun to see all them, but I really didn't know what was going on.

"I was just flowing with it. I was disappointed with it, but at the same time, couldn't do anything about it, so I was relaxing a bit."

The determined Dibilio improved mightily during his week stay, getting back to "100 percent physically," though mentally, he admitted, "I'm not there yet."

The 2010 Express-Times Football Player of the Year had an evaluation at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Center on Friday to determine the amount of speech therapy he would undergo.

Besides needing to take one aspirin a day as a blood thinner, Dibilio will have three therapy sessions per week, focusing on improving skills including speech and reading comprehension.

"Right now I'm a lot better, especially since a week ago when it happened," he said. "I still have a lot of therapy in the near future, but everything's all right now."

Chuck Dibilio talks about the stroke he suffered at Princeton

The former Nazareth Area High School star athlete discusses his recovery from a stroke he suffered on Jan. 20 at Princeton University.

Watch video

Dibilio confirmed the doctors are still running more tests to find out the cause of the stroke.

Prior to his senior season with the Blue Eagles, the two-sport star -- who also was a 1,000-point scorer in basketball -- suffered a spleen infarction when 10 percent of the organ died.

His season, in both sports, was in doubt.

Despite missing most of summer training camp and spending three days in the hospital, Dibilio was able to rush for 2,050 yards and 30 touchdowns for Nazareth that fall.

No correlation between the two incidents has been determined as of yet.

Dibilio made it out Friday night to watch his younger brother, Ryan -- who now wears Chuck's old No. 32 jersey and will for the rest of the season -- and Nazareth play basketball at Liberty High School.

Blue Eagles basketball coach Joe Arndt had his former star athlete stand up from his seat in the stands as Dibilio received a rousing ovation.

"It's great, everyone's supporting me so much," Dibilio said. "It was nice because everyone came up and asked how I was doing. I had a lot of fun. I want to thank everyone who said 'Get well' and everything like that."

Dibilio admitted his status for the next semester at Princeton, which begins Feb. 6, is up in the air, saying "we'll see how things go, especially this week."

As for football?

"As of right now, I'm allowed to play, but it depends on what medicines they put me on so it can change," Dibilio said. "We're not exactly sure. I'll do whatever I have to do to get back to 100 percent so I can play football. I really want to do that."

He's even more excited for next season because he'll be back in the Lehigh Valley for a pair of games in 2012 -- Sept. 15 at Lehigh University and Oct. 6 at Lafayette College.

Bethlehem Catholic High School wrestlers find a way past stubborn Easton in a thriller

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

It took a powerful -- if unpleasant -- image to help Bethlehem Catholic High School's wrestling team overturn 30 years of adverse history against Easton Area High School Saturday night.

"Coach (Jeff) Karam said losing to Easton at our place last year left us with an open wound that we healed tonight," said Golden Hawk senior 138-pounder Richy Cruz, whose one-point nailbiter of a win in the penultimate bout proved the decisive moment in Becahi's thrilling 29-26 Lehigh Valley Conference triumph in an all-time classic in front of 2,000-plus at Easton Area Middle School.

The win, the Golden Hawks' first over the Red Rovers since 1982, clinched a share of the LVC crown for Becahi (7-0 LVC and overall) Saturday night and the Hawks will stand alone as conference champs if Easton (15-2, 6-1) beats Parkland (7-0 LVC) Monday night and the Hawks defeat Whitehall Wednesday (the Parkland-Becahi match now set for Feb. 15 is not an LVC match).

"There's no doubt this was the most entertaining and emotional match I have ever been a part of," said Karam, an Easton graduate who defeated his gym teacher, Easton coach Steve Powell, for the first time in his career at Freedom and Becahi.

The unbridled joy on the Becahi sideline afterwards reflected the intense satisfaction the Golden Hawks took from beating Easton, thus checking off perhaps the one accomplishment they had been lacking in their recent revival.

"I'm not saying this was better than winning a state title (as Becahi did last year) but it feels awfully good," Cruz said. "The one thing we hadn't done as seniors was to beat Easton. As seniors we came here four years with Coach Karam and we've won a state title but we hadn't beaten Easton. People said, "We're (PIAA Class) AA, we're just Becahi, and now we come into their house, in this environment, and beat them and (clinch a share of) the league title."

Easton couldn't have done much more than it did to stretch Becahi's agony to 31 years. The Rovers pulled upsets at 120 and 126 -- senior Peter Stanley thumping Becahi sophomore Zeke Moisey 8-2 at 120 and Easton sophomore Elijah Brown downing senior Zane Heller 2-1 in a tiebreaker at 126 -- that erased a 23-17 Becahi lead gained by Darian Cruz's pin at 113 (Brown and Cruz shared the the Chuck Leiderman Award for the Most Outstanding Wrestler in the Easton-Becahi match, as voted by a media panel).

It was the second time Easton had rallied from a six-point deficit for a tie -- Becahi led 17-11 after 220 but Rovers Francis Slover (285) and Anthony Parisi (106) won decisions. The Rovers just kept on coming but Becahi always had just a little extra in reserve, and winning the coin flip allowed the Hawks to get the matchups they wanted, especially at 152 and 195.

Easton coach Steve Powell couldn't have asked for more from his team.

"It's awfully hard to see where we steal another win," he said. "Them winning the coin flip was huge. I thought our conditioning was really good and we wrestled very well. Francis did awesome, like he usually does, Peter's improved a whole lot, Elijah did great. We're proud of the kids, nobody quit. You have to love these kinds of matches."

What Powell may not have loved was a key decision by referee Matt Billy in the second period of Richy Cruz's 3-2 defeat of Mark Misczenski at 138. Billy awarded Cruz a takedown in a situation where Cruz's control of the Rover came and went very quickly. The takedown proved the difference.

"I wanted the match to come down to me," Richy Cruz said. "I dreamed about it all week and I wanted to be ready for it. I had to keep shooting and I knew I'd get an opening. I thought it was a takedown."

It is fair to say many in the crowd did not.

"If the ref says it's a takedown, it's a takedown," Powell said. "It was really, really close. You could say that was the (dual) match-deciding takedown."

Cruz's win followed Randy Cruz's 5-0 decision and put Becahi up 29-23. Easton hadn't led since after the night's second bout -- Rover senior Mitch Minotti had opened the match with a pin at 152 -- but Easton still had a chance to pin and win at 145.

The Rovers would have won a 29-all tie on the third criteria (most technical falls) but Becahi's Aaron Morekin wrestled smartly in a 3-1 loss to Kyler Kilpatrick.

"I told Aaron the only way we lose if you get pinned," Karam said. "I told him I wanted him to win but I wanted him to be smart."

"Kyler spent all he had," Powell said simply.

So did everyone who stepped on the mat Saturday night in a match few will ever forget.
