Vikings too much for Indians

The Allentown Central Catholic Vikings will return to the P.I.A.A. State Eastern Final next weekend for the highly anticipated match-up against Archbishop Wood, by beating the Shamokin Indians 56-14, at the Silver Bowl in Mount Carmel.

Archbishop Wood defeated Pottsgrove on Friday night, 41-22.

Central Catholic (9-5) outscored the Indians 35-0 in the first score to put the game away early. In fact, Brendan Nosovitch (8 for 13, 321 yards, 4 TD) contributed to 4 of the 5 touchdowns in the quarter.

It started off early in the first quarter, when Nosovitch connected with Kevin Gulyas (5 catches, 177 yards, 2 TD) on the first of their two touchdowns together in the game. This one was a 30-yard pass for a Viking 7-0 lead.

A little more than a minute later, Jalen Snyder-Scipio (3 catches, 144 yards, 2 TD) was the recipient of a touchdown pass from Nosovitch – 62 yarder for a 14-0 lead.

Colin McDermott (12 rushes, 70 yards, 3 TD) rushed for two of his three touchdown in the first quarter, added with the second connection of Nosovitch to Gulyas. This one was a 95 catch and run for a 35-0 lead.

In the second quarter, the Vikings added two more touchdowns. Nosovitch threw his fourth and final touchdown of the game, and his second to Snyder-Scipio for 54 yards, but the South Carolina recruit never saw the touchdown catch as he was laying on the field injured, holding his right ankle in pain. He was able to walk off on the field on his own strength but did not return to the game.

“I just got taken down by my ankle and somebody just kept twisting it,” Nosovitch said afterward. “It probably looked a lot worse than it is, that’s what I guess I’m trying to say. I’ll be all right.”

McDermott added his third and final rushing touchdown of the game, a 5 yard burst, for a 49-0 lead at halftime.

Before going into halftime, Central Catholic was playing their back-ups and the mercy rule was in affect.

Late in the fourth quarter, Shamokin (6-8) scored its first points of the game, a 2 yard touchdown run by Draven Miller (13 rushes, 37 yards, TD). The Indians then finished off the game’s scoring with a fumble recovering in the endzone, recovered by Ryan Burns.

Vikings other touchdown came from backup quarterback Anthony Beck on a 22 yard run.

Shamokin quarterback Tucker Yost went 6 for 19, 90 yards and 3 interceptions.
