Sports Media Digest- December 12, 2011

Here are some sports media news items from today:

•The overnight ratings are in from yesterday’s action in the NFL. NBC’s Sunday Night Football match-up between the Giants and Cowboys registered a 16.1 rating, the second highest SNF rating of the year. Fox’ late regional game (primarily Bears/Broncos) registered a rating of 14.3 while the CBS national 4:15p.m. ET game (primarily Raiders/Packers) came it with a 12.8 rating.
•Saturday’s Army/Navy game on CBS gave the network a rating of 4.0, up 14% from the 2010 match-up.
•ESPN is starting to generate buzz over its slate of four NBA contests to kick-off the season on Christmas. It was announced today that the lead announcing team of Mike Breen and Jeff Van Gundy will call two games on Christmas Day…the 2:30pm ET NBA Finals rematch between the Heat and Mavericks on ABC and the 10:30pm ET contest between the LA Clippers and Golden State Warriors. The pair will take a charter from Dallas after the first game and hopefully be in Oakland in time for the finale. If delayed, Terry Gannon will call the game with Chris Mullin.
•The rest of the schedule on Christmas for the NBA on ESPN has Mike Tirico and Hubie Brown calling the 5:00pm ET Bulls at Lakers contest while Dave Pasch and Doris Burke will call the 8:00pm ET match-up between the Orlando Magic and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
•The NFL Network has set-up its schedule of NFL Replay match-ups of the week. At 8:00p.m. ET tomorrow the network will re-air the New England Patriots at Washington Redskins. At 9:30p.m. ET NFLN will re-play the New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys. On Wednesday at 8:00p.m. ET the network will re-air the Chicago Bears at Denver Broncos. Denver QB Tim Tebow was wired for sound for the broadcast.
•The CBS Sports Network has announced that former UCLA Head Coach Rick Neuheisel will serve as a guest analyst on this week’s edition of Inside College Football, which airs tomorrow night at 8:00p.m. ET.
