Rich Thompson Signs Minor League Deal

Rich Thompson, one of the most popular players in IronPigs history, has been re-signed by the Phillies to a Minor League contract.

Rich Thompson is one of the most popular players to have ever donned a Lehigh Valley IronPigs uniform and entered the 2012 season as the club's leader in numerous categories including stolen bases (127), runs (238), hits 425) and games played (439). Thompson, 33, excelled under Ryne Sandberg's tutelage in 2011, swiping a league-best 48 bases while scoring a league-high 81 runs. In fact, his 48 steals were the most by a Phillies Triple-A farmhand since Bob Dernier recorded 72 in 1981. At the end of last season, Thompson's 436 career stolen bases ranked third among all active Minor Leaguers.

Thompson joined the IronPigs during their inaugural season in 2008 and is one of http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifjust two players, along with Drew Carpenter, to spend parts of four seasons with the club.

Thompson hit .276 with five home runs and 30 RBIs in 124 games with the IronPigs last year and is a career .271 hitter with the club.

A product of James Madison (VA) University, Thompson made his Major League debut in 2004, appearing in six games with the Kansas City Royals.
