Preston And Steve’s Camp Out For Hunger Results

FROM LAURA NACHMAN

From WMMR:

Preston and Steve’s Camp Out for Hunger
50,000 Pounds Over Last Year’s Record Amount

Philadelphia, PA (December 5, 2011): 93.3 WMMR listeners have donated 576,687 pounds of non-perishable food items to feed the area’s hungry. Over 288 tons filling 22 tractor trailers were collected over a 5 day live broadcast. This is the largest amount collected in the event’s fourteen year run. (Last year WMMR collected 527,285 lbs.) Though Preston & Steve encourage individual and business food donations, their listeners, unsolicited, donated over $76,000 in cash as well.

All last week (Mon, 11/28 thru Fri, 12/2), WMMR’s Preston & Steve lived in the parking lot of the Metroplex Shopping Center in Plymouth Meeting, PA collecting food for Philabundance, broadcasting live each morning. Over 30 celebrities/performers attended to drum up additional support for the effort, including Flyers forwards Claude Giroux and Scott Hartnell, former Flyer John Leclair, Phillies pitcher Kyle Kendrick, 311, Steel Panther, Eddie Money, John Waite, Phil Margera, Congressman Jon Runyan, Pat Croce, Bill Clement, and Villanova Basketball Coach Jay Wright.

Philabundance notes for each pound of food and for each dollar raised, 3 meals can be realized/provided. The donations from WMMR’s one week initiative mean nearly 2 million meals for those in need in the Delaware Valley.

Subaru of America provided this year’s largest donation from a business – 250,818 pounds (double the category amount last year) – scoring them a 4-hour live Preston & Steve broadcast from their business headquarters in Cherry Hill.
