Northampton grad making a quick impact at Penn

FROM KEITH GROLLER

University of Pennsylvania freshman Kara Bonenberger, a Walnutport native and Northampton High product, has been one of the keys to the Quakers best start in 29 years. On Monday, she was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week after scoring 11 points and grabbing eight rebounds in a win at Niagara. That victory gave Penn a 3-1 record, marking the program's best start since the 1983-83 season.

As of Monday, she was leading the Ivy in shooting percentage at 59.1 percent (13-of-22).

Last week, she averaged eight points and 7.5 rebounds as Penn split a pair of games.

She followed up her rookie award by scoring eight points (3-for-10 shooting) and grabbing 10 rebounds in Wednesday night's 49-39 win over Lafayette at The Palestra.

Bonenberger is back in action on Friday night when Penn visits Notre Dame in South Bend.
