Lehigh may not have made it to Frisco, Texas, for the FCS national championship game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, but Lehigh University graduate and longtime area football official John Shigo will work the game as part of the officiating crew.
North Dakota State meets Sam Houston State for the title at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas. The game will be nationally televised by ESPN2.
Shigo is a member of the Lehigh University and McDonald's Lehigh Valley All-Star Classic Hall of Fame.
Shigo graduated from Freedom High School in 1980 after earning three varsity football letters. He was a first-team All-ECAC linebacker three times at Lehigh University, and was named first team Kodak All-American his senior season.
Shigo played two seasons for the Philadelphia Stars of the USFL before his career was cut short by an injury in 1985
