FROM KEITH GROLLER
9:28 p.m.
Game mercifully ends. CCHS wins 56-14 and the game everybody has waited for is now set -- CCHS vs. Archbishop Wood.
9:19 p.m.
Shamokin finally gets on the board and rewards its fans who stuck it out on this long, cold night. 56-7 wtih 2:34 remaining.
9:04 p.m.
Backup quarterback Beck tacks on a 22-yard touchdown run and it's now 56-0 with 9:32 remaining. Even Central backups might have won this game had they played throughout. No one can feel very good about a game like this at this stage of the state tournament.
Shamokin (right) comes off the field at halftime
8:38 p.m.
Nosovitch (below left at the back of the pack) emerges from the locker room and talks long walk back to the field. He's moving smoothly. No sign of a problem.
8:25 p.m.
CCHS people say Nosovitch is fine. He just tweaked an ankle that had been bothering him.
8:21 p.m.
Game finally reaches halftime with CCHS up 49-0. McDermott added third touchdown run after taking a handoff from backup quarterback Anthony Beck, a junior.
8:13 p.m.
Nosovitch leaves the field under his own power. CCHS fans breathe a collective sigh of relief.
8:09 p.m.
Nosovitch throws another touchdown, this one a 54-yarder to Jalen Snyder-Scipio, but all eyes are on Nosovitch who took a hit low as he threw and stayed down on the ground.
7:52 p.m.
It's Central Catholic 35-0 with just 26 seconds gone in the second quarter. Shamokin finally gets a stop and CCHS must punt. It's a moral victory for the badly-outmanned Indians. Next goal for Shamokin is to get a first down.
7:39 p.m.
Central Catholic defense has been great, offense unstoppable with four touchdowns on 11 plays from scrimmage. Shamokin has no absolutely no answer for the Vikings offense.
7:15 p.m.
Shamokin crowd goes crazy after two Nosovitch incompletions, but then a screen pass to Jalen Snyder-Scipio goes for 72 yards and they're quickly quieted as CCHS makes it 14-0 wih 8:02 still left in the first quarter. Mercy rule here we come!
6:57 p.m.
Getting set for the PIAA 3A quarterfinals here at the historic Silver Bowl in Mount Carmel.
Now I take a visit here off my bucket list. This is the home of Pennsylvania's winngest program with 805 all-time wins, 35 more than No. 2 Easton, and the 805 total is fifth most nationally.
Ironically, this place reminds me of Easton's Cottingham Stadium, a stadium tucked into a residential area at the end of town.
Conveniently, there's a Boyer's supermarket and a CVS across the street, which I visited and a refreshment with a wide variety of items, which I also visited,
Nice showing from CCHS, but obviously this is Shamokin's home game with the Indians having about a 15-minute drive.
