Week 9 NFL picks: Let's don't fall back now

FROM KEITH GROLLER

Mixed feelings always about the fall time change.

Love, absolutely love, the extra hour of sleep.

But hate, and I mean hate, the fact that it gets dark around 5, 5:30. Very depressing.

At least we have lights -- at least most of us do -- in our homes. If nothing else, last week's major power outage should have been a reminder of how lucky we are to have modern conveniences such as electricity. Life just isn't the same without it, is it?

Well, hopefully no one has to look for alternative ways to follow their favorite NFL teams today.

Let's hope we see some touchdowns today unlike like that LSU-Alabama game on Saturday night which was only the greatest game ever if you liked missed field goals and poor offensive play. I know it was supposed to be the game of the century, but I fell asleep in the fourth quarter. Honest.

With the NFL picks, I continue to shock myself with winning records. I was 11-2 outright, 8-5 against the spread and 6-7 with the over/under numbers last week.

For the season, I am 79-35 outright, 60-52-2 against the spread and 57-55-2 on the over/under totals.

Here we go with the picks. HOME TEAMS IN CAPS.

Atlanta (-6.5) 24, INDY COLTS 20 -- Under the 45.5 -- "Suck for Luck" campaign continues to pick up steam in Indy.

NEW ORLEANS (-8.5) 27, Tampa Bay 24 -- Over the 50.5 -- If an embarrassing loss to the Rams doesn't get the Saints going, nothing will.

HOUSTON (-10.5) 24, Cleveland 14 -- Under the 41 -- Finally, it looks like the Texans are living up to the hype, even without Andre Johnson.

New York Jets (+2.5) 23, BUFFALO 21 -- Under the 45 -- If the Bills win this one, then I'll believe.

Miami (+4) 24, KANSAS CITY 17 -- Over the 40.4 -- Even Dolphins fans I know are rooting for losses and for Luck to fall their way. Every time I see this matchup, I think back to that Christmas Day game when I was a kid and Miami-KC played a playoff game that went on and on and on and Garo Yepremian finally won it with a field goal. Somehow, a Dolphins win today wouldn't be quite as exciting.

WASHINGTON (+4) 23, San Francisco 20 -- Over the 37 -- Sorry, I just think the Niners are that good.

DALLAS (-11) 30, Seattle 17 -- Over the 45 -- If I was a Cowboys fan, the only thing that would concern me more than how they were over-matched by the Eagles was their "Who cares" reaction when it was over.

Denver (+7) 17, OAKLAND 16 -- Under the 42 -- Carson Palmer won't be able to blame the Bengals for his poor play in this one.

Cincinnati (+3) 24, TENNESSEE 20 -- Over the 41.5-- Amazing how a team can take flight once it gets rid of some heavy baggage (TO, Ochocinco, Palmer etc.)

ARIZONA (-3) 24, St. Louis 14 -- Under the 41 -- The magic is over under the Arch.

NEW ENGLAND (-9) 24, New York Giants 21 --Under the 51 -- Valiant effort falls short for injury-plagued Giants.

SAN DIEGO (+5.5) 31, Green Bay 28 -- Over the 51 -- I have no idea why. I still think the Chargers are overrated, but no one goes undefeated anymore.

SUNDAY NIGHT

PITTSBURGH (-3) 23, Baltimore 17 -- Under the 42 -- Finally NBC gets a Sunday night game that isn't over by halftime.

MONDAY NIGHT

PHILADELPHIA (-7.5) 27, Chicago 17 -- Under the 47 -- Eagles love the prime time stage.
