The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), thru President Obama, have mandated the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 2:00 PM lasting 30 Seconds. The purpose of this test is to assess the reliability and effectiveness of the National EAS as a public alert mechanism.

Advanced Sales for the Nazareth / Delaware Valley PIAA quarter final football game will be on Wednesday and Thursday from 2 pm - 4 pm in the Nazareth HS Gym lobby. Tickets are $3.00 for students and senior citizens, $6.00 for adults. All tickets at the gate will be $6.00.

to Bangor High School on Dec. 5, 2011, at 7 pm to deliver his powerful message of recovery and sobriety to the Slater athletes, our students and staff, and our community at large.
"Considering he recently appeared on national television and spoke at the University of Florida, Rhode Island University, and West Point, we are extremely excited to bring our school and community this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," said Holland.
The event will be hosted in the school's 1,200-seat auditorium.

Taxes are proposed to remain stable at 6.5 mills under a tentative $3.7 million budget approved last week by the Bushkill Township Board of Supervisors.

Supervisors on Nov. 3 approved the budget, which is about a 3.3 percent increase over the current budget, which is $3.6 million. Township Manager Brian Harris said the board was able to keep taxes in check by limiting additional spending.

Harris said the public will be able to review the budget for 20 days before the board formally adopts it on Dec. 21.

Easton Hospital has recently laid off seven employees, mostly administrative positions.

The hospital elaborated little in a statement except to say that the reductions will not impact patient care. Affected employees were given severance packages, the hospital said.

The Wilson Borough-based organization employs about 1,300 in the area through its main hospital and related practices. The hospital is a division of Community Health Systems in Nashville, Tenn.

Nazareth Area School District is one of fewer than 400 public school districts in the
nation being honored by the College Board with a place on the 2nd Annual AP® Honor Roll, for
simultaneously increasing access to Advanced Placement coursework while maintaining or increasing the
percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher on AP exams. Achieving both of these goals is the ideal
scenario for a district’s Advanced Placement program, because it indicates that the district is successfully
identifying motivated, academically-prepared students who are likely to benefit most from AP coursework.
Since 2009, Nazareth Area School District increased the number of students participating in AP from 103 to
143, while increasing the percentage of students earning AP Exam scores of 3 or higher from 83% in 2009 to
84% in 2011. The majority of U.S. colleges and universities grant college credit or advanced placement for a
score of 3 or above on AP exams.
