Subject of ESPN documentary is coming to speak at Bangor

Last week ESPN premiered its latest documentary "Unguarded”, chronicling the life of Chris Herren, a 2,000-point scorer in high school from Fall River, Massachusetts, a Boston College and Fresno State standout and an NBA player for the Denver Nuggets and Boston Celtics who had has career ruined by his addiction to drugs and alcohol. Herren’s addiction neararly killed him and instead landed him in jail and rehab.

to Bangor High School on Dec. 5, 2011, at 7 pm to deliver his powerful message of recovery and sobriety to the Slater athletes, our students and staff, and our community at large.
"Considering he recently appeared on national television and spoke at the University of Florida, Rhode Island University, and West Point, we are extremely excited to bring our school and community this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," said Holland.
The event will be hosted in the school's 1,200-seat auditorium.
Tickets: Adult- $8.00 Students- $2.00 with student I.D.

Chris Herren, a basketball legend from Fall River, Massachusetts, realized his dreams by playing for the Celtics in the NBA, only to lose it all to addiction before rising again with a new dream. Herren’s basketball dreams began as a 6’2” guard at Durfee High School in Fall River, Massachusetts. A member of the Durfee High School team chronicled in Bill Reynold’s book, Fall River Dreams, Herren excelled on the basketball court, becoming one of the top Division 1 prospects in the country. His high school highlights include 2,073 career points, Gatorade New England Player of the Year 1993-1994, Boston Globe Massachusetts Player of the Year 1992-1994, and being a member of the 1994 McDonald’s All American team.
