Mondavi son to host wine tasting dinner at Shula's Steak House

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

Pete Mondavi Jr. will host a four-course wine tasting dinner Thursday at Shula's Steak House.

The restaurant, at the Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley, finalized the date four months ago with the California vintner.

The $85 dinner, which includes four courses and five wines, was announced to Team Shula members two weeks ago. General manager Scott Craver says that a day after the e-mail went out, the event sold out.

The Mondavi name is the preeminent name known for California wines, Craver says. He says Peter and Robert, the original Mondavi wine-making brothers, had a falling out. Robert Mondavi left the family vineyard -- Charles Krug, the first winery in Napa Valley, according to their website -- to start the Robert Mondavi Winery. Peter Mondavi continued to run the Charles Krug Winery, and his son Pete Jr. is following in his footsteps.
